Hey, Bill

I'm 63 now and ride a Honda VFR ("The gentleman's sportbike.") with a set of
Heli Bars that bring the grips circa 2" higher than stock and an inch or two
back towards the rider as well. With the addition of a Corbin seat I now
have a bike with which I can cover up to 500 miles in a day if I remember to
take a short walking-around break every 200 miles or so. (This works out
well because you can just barely squeeze 200 miles out of a full tank if
you're careful.)

Even though it's no longer a state of the art race rep, the VFR is still
quick enough to stay out of it's own way -circa 120 MPH, eleven-and-a-bit
second 1/4 mile- and it's only "bad" habit is that it's so easy to ride and
so free of handling quirks that it's possible to find yourself in over your
head if you don't pay attention to your speed.

I used mine as a track bike quite a few times and was pleased with the
results, but it's equally at home bumming around the back roads on a nice
summer's afternoon.

If $ are no problem, you might want to look at the Ducati GT1000 at a little
over $10k.

It is as about standard as they come.

Duh. That's largely because the people who point them out are invariably
racists.

And what kind of prize do you get for alienating American-Americans by
calling them "racists" and "bigots" for identifying problem minority
groups and pointing out their lack of respect for law and order?

Nowadays the cops wouldn't even describe O.J. Simpson as "Black" if he
was seen running down the street with a bloody butcher knife in his
hand.

The cops would have to say how tall he was and what color his hair and
eyes were, but wouldn't be able to mention his race or skin color
beyond saying he was "dark complected".

I sincerely hope you find yourself in a situation where you are the
victim of a criminal and you try to tell him that you support his
struggle for civil rights and that you have a lot of friends of his
ethnic group, just before he cuts your balls off.

I sincerely hope that you lose your job to a Hindu or Pakistani
engineer who will happily work for half of your salary and that you
never get another job as long as you live because of your race.

That will be what you deserve for being a traitor to American-
Americans.

Oh wait. All whites aren't like that.

Tim is 100% correct on this issue. It is not the race, it is the
individual.

And here is my observation, having lived all over the United States, people
on the East Coast are the rudest most offensive people in the entire
country, regardless of race. Oh wait, that's not fair I still know a few
decent people on the East Coast.

A little humor is just what this sick thread needed Bryan, besides a
Tombstone. Anyway, I think ole' Krusty is often misunderstood and in
reality contributes more to this NG than 90% of the other regular
posters. Nuff said!

The Suzuki SV650 series is damn popular, and for good reason. For higher
bars, you might want the standard version instead of the "S" version. There
are also handlebar riser kits you can buy for just about any modern bike
that will allow you to adjust the handlebar location and angle to your
liking (e.g. Heli Bars).

R6 is a race bike basically. The YZF600R on the other hand, is its more
relaxed cousin. Also another very good general purpose sport bike, from
everything I hear.

Honda has their CBR600F4i, which is similar in style and shape to the
YZF600R. Pretty sporty, but not an all-out race bike made street legal.

Kawasaki makes some nice mid-size bikes, like the Ninja 500R and 650R. The
650R is a newer model in their lineup and hasn't been time tested like the
500 has, but so far people seem to like it in the reviews I've seen. At just
around $5k MSRP, the 500R is a great bang for the buck.

Sounds like you're looking in the right direction, Bill.

I think I missed it in your earlier post, though... how long has it been
since you were riding street bikes regularly?

Why stick your nose in a thread concerning riding conditions in an

Yeah, well, Bill and I do not live on Maui, we live in a great big
valley that is swarming with illegal aliens. So you have no idea about
what I'm saying when I advise him to check out the cruiser scene.
