and two cylinders to find what is missing in my garage, a bike you can wring
out like a dishrag once in a while, instead of one that threatens to launch
you someplace out beyond relative velocity everytime you creep over that
7500 rpm line.

It looks like I'll be trading in to a sv650 and letting the R1 go to a more
desirous partner.
Not that I don't appreciate that it's a refined, well made mount with
everything a bike could be and more, but still is lacking that thing my VTR,
851 and NT650 all had.

It isn't personality, or character or that fun, lumpy, power delivery, or
even the easier going nature of a medium/lightweight twin. Or the fact that
going fast on public roads has lost it's appeal to me since eating that big
bag of meat last year.

I can't pin it down really.

I decided the S4rS is more money than I want to commit right now ( can you
say alternative minimum tax bracket?), or else I would be riding one right
this very minute.
So I stuck my neck out and invited inquiries to buy ,sell, or trade one bike
for another and the opportunity arose to get a nice SV.

It won't happen for a week or two but if and when I make the change, I am
sure it will be the right move.

And it's red.Smile

Jim, you won't be sorry. At $6K OTD, the SV has Better ergo's brakes
and suspension than my early 00 model. The preload is adjustable front
& rear but if you're near 160-180lbs it feels almost as planted as my
03 GSXR1000.
Add to this a smoother than the early model engine and it will cruise
at 100MPH without buzzing you (better than the BMW & former
SuperHawk). Also if you get the standard model it's more comfy with a
seat height of 31.5" and is about 30 lbs lighter than your R1. My seat
HT is set for 30.5".

As with your former SuperHawk the power is typical 90 degree twin or
stong in the middle (for a 650) and has just a tad of a top end rush.
I think the new ones are close to 80HP.

Good Luck, Jim.

Sorry Krusty, but I explained in a previous thread (when I 1st bought
the SV) that I had my triple clamps lowered by 1" and the rear preload
tighten just a bit, when I bought the bike. So my bike's particular
seat height is now 30.5" vs the stock 31.5". You know the reason or
should by now. I'm all done explaining my disabilities over and over
again and I think others are tiring of it too.

How is the SV650 seat any different from the SV650S seat? www.bikebandit.com
parts fiches don't show anydiiference in 2006 models.

So far, google has nothing to say about seat height adjustment on the SV650,
but the 1250 Bandit's seat height is apparently adjusted by changing spacers.

Tis the nature of the beast.

It is a bit tall compared to the 80-90's UJM's but 30.5" isn't bad
now.

That would be nice to know. If you find a link please share it.

Try a ride 1st to see if you like them.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Using the engine braking for the 1st three downshifts and just
clicking down the other two.

It would sure be nice if we never had to explain ourselves or what we meant
to say, but the nature of written communication is that someone else will
usually misunderstand you, if at all possible.

I got the impression that the SV650's seat height was somehow adjustable but
the SV650's seat was not.

I have been studying various twin-cylinder bikes for a while, and I never
particularly liked the SV650 because it's a little tall in the seat
department, and I feel like I would be pitched over the handlebars in a panic
stop.

But there are several different lowering kits available these days that will
drop the seat height from 1.0 inch to 2.0 inches.

I might just buy an SV650 later this year to see what a 90-degree V-twin is
like.

In a previous message, you said "Stopping and starting through town lights
was either drop the throttle and pull in the clutch and downshift five times
or use the compression braking, I tried both."

Now that you have ridden the motorcycle for a few weeks, which way seems
better for you?

I find the idea of aluminum dog bones a little scary, I would go for the
steel bones.

http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/ShowSchematic.asp...eptId=2

The #13 dog bone-shaped links control the position of the rear end of the #1
lever arm. The front end of the lever arm attaches to the motorcycle's frame.
Longer dog bones allow the
the rear end of the motorcycle sit lower and the initial ride is a bit
harsher, as I recall.
