Man I think Serge is going to win this one but lets go anyway. How long
does it take to get to a fun stretch of road or off road route for you?

That would be about 35 minutes for me. HWY 2 to PA.

I will descibe the trip in a tale later. Lets hear your story tellin'
abilities about that ride you wont forget.

Pete you need to chime in here. Serge probably justs steps out his door
to get to a cool route...how far for you?

Brent which direction do you go for a cool ride route?
and How far is it?

Talk to me people........

Steve

There are a set of books called the Destination Highways Manuals
available here. One is published for each of BC, Washington, Oregon and
now Southern California. They list all the best motorcycle riding roads
in the province by twistyness, surface, scenery, engineering, etc...
I'm lucky in the fact that four of the best rides in BC happen to be
within an hour of me. Being at the foot of the Rockies, any way I turn
the riding is great. So the answer to your question is, it takes me
just long enough to warm up the bike.

Ride safe.
Serge

PS: for the longest time this news group was used for off topic rantings
by foreign hate groups. I think that is what turned people off it. Its
nice to see that it is getting back to the people and subject that it
was designed for.

That would be cool. Why didn't we think of doing that?
We could have road our bikes and rated away our lives in Joy. I would love
to be that close to The mountains and such.
BTW I love the sound of "twistyness" <G>

Yeah I hate it when a newsgroup has nothing going on that relates to it's
supposed subject.

Actually, the Destination Highways books was started by a couple of
riders from Vancouver. It seems that if you write a book and publish it
you can deduct the cost of the research (riding) from your income tax.
Pretty cool motivation hey! Here is the URL if you are interested
http://www.destinationhighways.com/.

I think we need to get together and write a canadian perspective on some
spots like Deals Gap. We can write off the trip then. Now all I have to do
is make enough money to warrant that write off. WOW that is cool about the
tax write off.......they really planned it out I guess.

It takes me about 5-6 minutes to get to Tatlock Road (off hwy7) which
heads towards Calabogie. There are some great twists at the beginning,
mellows midway and gets really nice near Calabogie

Hey Sean welcome back to the coolest newsgroup on the net. So far I'd
say we are an elite group of four. Hopefully we'll see regular posts from
you as well. Five minutes to a nice stretch of road.......that's awsome.
You must be a die hard to be riding at all at this time of the year. It's
around -4 degrees here in small town Saskatchewan. BTW what are you riding
so late in the year?

I don't get out for pleasure rides too much. With the kids keeping us
busy, my street riding is limited pretty much to work and back in
Saskatoon. Lucky for me, there are a few nice freeway curves and
turns between Warman and the campus in Saskatoon.

If I do have time to get out, I'd much rather head to the kart track
with the YSR's. Saskatchewan doesn't have too many places to drag a
knee, and there I can do it all day long.

I quit the newsgroups a few years back because I was sick of sifting
through political posts to get to the good stuff. It was just too
time consuming.

Rec.motorcycles was my preferred group at the time. Perhaps I'll hang
out here now in addition to sasksportbike.com.

Yeah I checked out the sasksportbike site. It looks really cool and like
it was a whole lot of work. Did you get to see the MotoGp final race? And
Why 2 YSR50's do you run them both in pocket bike races? Could you post
pictures of your bikes? I'd think I'd like to see them if it's posible.

Ok Brent where is the track you go to? on which part of the highway?
Which side? I don't think I've ever seen it.

Addiction:
Isn't that the truth. Street riding has almost become boring for me. I
figure I need a old Norton or something like that. Something that
starts shimmying at 95km/h so it just **seems** like I am rocketing down
the road. Smile That would bring the spark back on the street... or maybe
a comfy new FJ1300 Smile

Otherwise the track wins... hands down!

You'll have to come check things out next spring when we get going
again. I'll let you take one for a few laps, so long as you have a
full suit (textile or leather) boots, gloves, and helmet with you.

We're just like drug dealers - one free sample to hook them, then drag
them in to our little addiction.

Absolutely. Being able to fully explore a bike's capabilities without
worrying about cars, curbs, or cops is awesome. Granted, riding a 3/4
scale bike with 7hp on a kart track isn't quite the same as riding a
1000cc superbike at Mosport, but it's the most convenient (and
affordable!) option available to me and my family (yes, both my wife
and I ride, and I have a JR50 ready for my son and daughter when they
are). There is a lot you can learn about riding fast by riding
something that's really underpowered. The only way to turn decent lap
times is to brake late and keep the corner speeds up, and that's what
makes you a better all around rider.

I really like having the CBR400 for the street. It's super cheap to
plate, and it's only got about 60 hp at the rear wheel, so I can give
it full throttle without instantly ending up in the "lose your
license" territory. It also handles great, although I'm sure the
modern 600's would kick it's butt.
