Well steel does not necessarily mean safety either though.

This girl I knew got in an accident once in front of my parents store.
She was late for work and was in a hurry and neglected to see the big
pickup coming down the road before making her left turn.

It T-Boned her passenger side and pushed the door in far enough to
actually hit her right arm. Her car was a brand new ford mustang, which
had some pretty decent doors and the truck wasn't moving at more than
your average 40-50mph on that road.

Had it impacted her drivers side, or had a passenger been in the car,
either her or the passenger would likely not be alive.

Steel? Safe? No.

Safe"r"? Maybe.

People are far more vulnerable than they think they are in their cages,
though most would never believe it.

Always hi-beams in the day, and sometimes in the evening, if I'm on
a right curb of a 4 lane road....

It all varies, you know, if they don't like your beam, they'll flick
theirs up too...tit for tat...seen that....now I can see them....

Flicking a beam is just a softer than a small horn toot
once....depending on the situation, most people don't interpret it as
anything much...or more it could be they interpret it as the cycle hit a
bump and the lights are pointing up<<-->down...whatever.

I flick hi in poorly lit ped areas,, on 1 way roads.....it's
something you just do from instinct...M/C are hard to see unless you weave,
not like a one eyed car.

Cars have beams on all the time, at least anything from 10 years
ago...they have all kinds of auto sensory configs for their light
situation...
Your hi-beam at night may dim theirs automatically.....not the best
set up there in the wonderful world of electronics..

In a tripolar bulb, one filament is stand alone, and reflects
ambiently through out the reflective light casing/housing (hi-beams).

The other filament has a reflective metal cup at the bottom and
reflects the light to the top of the reflective light casing/housing causing
a (low-beam) view set to the right.....

They wave at me, and I drive a Yamaha Majesty400 scooter type,
although the seat is modified to sit real low comparatively....

It's pretty hard to wave on a big hawg, when your just
cruising...just flick the lights..

Could be a rider, but since the HA---Harley groups have been labeled
an "outlaw" criminal organization, they might be removing the stickers to
ease the heat...

Most Harleys seem somewhat related to some Biker Gang, so it's not
really different. I seen HA stuff as riding all sorts of stuff from "street
dealing" bicycles, rice rockets "r6" along the Harleys, and red trucks with
"pony-up" plates.....

It's not that good to slam it, since it is an important wheel to
have....rear, then pump the front....we all do that...

Regular halogen hi-beams are jack in the daytime, it's not like
riding in the sun. When riding away from the Sun in 2way, hi-beams are never
bright enuff.........

Do what? Why pump the front brake?

If your coming to an emergency fast stop, and your 30% rear brake is
pretty tight to almost lock, then your front has to take up that 70%
stopping power but has to keep rolling, unless you have a 3rd wheel
somewhere.

Who said slamming it? You can apply it quickly, but smoothly, without
slamming it.

> have....rear, then pump the front....we all do that...

Rear first, and pump the front? You are not going to be stopping nearly
as quick as you could. You start applying the front brake, and quickly
increase pressure, right until you are about to lock up (for maximum braking),
and then you start to ease off it as the situation allows. There is no
on-off-on-of BS - that is the opposite of smooth. The perfect front
brake action is to ramp it all the way up, hold, and then ramp it down
(most likely more slowly than the pace you ramped it up). Just watch the
pros on TV when they show the on-board cameras, and you will get the point.
Use the rear to supplement the front, as you can. If the front locks up,
you just release it really quick and get back on it - not a big deal.

This thread is so last week....

The idea is that you take it to the edge of losing traction.
"Pumping" it would only make sense if you were on a low-traction
surface. Locking it increases your stopping distance.
