ok you can do this one of 2 ways.

1. got to www.fasteddy.com he has how to do its on all sort of subjects
for the yamaha star line including making your stock pipes louder. yes you
will have to rejet your carb to accomodate for the decrease in back pressure.

2. buy a good set of new pipes (300-500 dollars US) and the have the carb
rejetted.

p.s. when youget the carb rejetted spend the extra money and get a hyper
charger air filter setup, which come with a jet kit, and ave your self ome
grief and have omeone that knows what there doing put the new jet in and re
tune it.

No idea where you are in the world but we in the UK find that hyperchages do
tend towards carb iceing and starting problems no bikes with them fitted

i reccomend k&n filter setups. very easy to configure and
the cheapest horsepower boost going.
i put one that fits the stock hardware on my sr500
and picked up 4 real horsepower. had to go from a 280 to 300
mainjet, that cost lesst then 2 quid.
if they don't sell them in the home islands, they are online
and ship world wide. they will aslo make jetting suggestions
for your bike.
4hp on a 500cc single is very good. also helped high end.
with a tune exhaust, my beast cruises quite comfortably at
80mph at 5k revs. and will do the ton.
total for the air and exhaust mods was about 200 pounds.
no labor, i did the simple bolt and swap myslef.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
