Deflate the tires to 80% of their normal pressure.

I don't understand this recomendation. Normally you would either rotate the tires-say once a
month-or keep them off the ground altogether to prevent flat spots.

Wouldn't defating the tire pressure increase flat spotting?

Sorry. Bad joke on my part. I hardly ever change the oil in my cars /
motorcycles. I got 175,000 miles out of my last Chevy truck and changed the
oil every 12k miles whether it needed it or not.

The reason you don't understand it is because I left off the bit about
putting the bike on the center stand and a block under the front of
the frame to keep both wheels off the ground.

Here is a link to a detailed list.

http://suzuki.mcf.com/winterstorage.html

I am sure it will be better than my typing up something from memory.

"10. Deflate the tires to approximately 20 PSI and block up the front
of the motorcycle so both front and rear tires are off of the ground.
This will keep the tires from developing permanent "flat" spots. "

Oh, I'm quite sure there is a difference in the wear the engine goes
through starting the engine while it is still warm with new oil, vs.
when it it cold. Just as there is more wear starting a cold engine
than a warm one any time. But, it is an engine - it wears over time - some
things wear it more than others - like starting it up.

I give it thought. I'm one of those people who actually lets the bike
warm up some before twisting its neck. I hate to think how bad it is
for the engine when it is 25 deg out at night, and I have to crank
the bike a bit, and keep the idle higher than I like during warmup
(otherwise the engine dies). But, I'd rather be riding the bike in 25 deg
weather than letting it preserve itself in the garage.

Although, modern tires are pretty good at not developing flat spots....

Yeah, I used to think Jap bikes were invincible, but I'm pretty sure
insufficient warm up is one reason the cylinders in my Kwacker needed
replated after only 14k miles.

I quite often see people put on their gear, fire the bike up, and
almost immediatly rev the piss out of the bike - makes me squirm
whenever I see it. *That* is motorcycle abuse.
