Post subject: motorcycle noob needs help getting performance

hi, i just got a 2006 zongshen 250gs with only 50 miles on it, i've put 200 on er over the past 3 days and i'm looking to get more performance out of my engine. the tach goes to 14000 and redlines at 12000, but the engine has little power over 8 grand, the hp just kinda drops off. i'm looking to get more power on the top end, and was thinking that maybe removing the catylac converter, and a high flow filter would do the trick.. from what i hear the exaust being restrictive could be the problem.

i'd also like to some day put in a big bore kit, the will bring me from 229.5 to 239.8cc's... will 10cc's really make a differance?.. noticeibly?

i was thinking maybe have heads ported and manster carb?

any thoughts or help is apriciated, thanks, Nick

before you trash a perfectly good bike by doing mods to it (and possibly illegal
at that) -- why not sell it and buy a bigger bike?

I actually talked to a guy in California who got his Zongshen
registered by claiming it had over 7500 miles on it. Otherwise, they
cannot be registered at all.

You want more power?

A. Retard the cam timing about 3 to 5 degrees, and *use* the RPM the
engine is capable of running at. This may involve running an open
exhaust and rejetting the carbs and advancing the ignition timing
several degrees.

B. Buy a motorcycle with a bigger engine.
