Yesterday, the credit union said I could have whatever I wanted.
Well....DUH.

I took the wife and one kid today, and after shopping with them, went
shopping alone as well. I examined the following brands.

Honda and Kawasaki and KTM, followed by Kawasaki and Yamaha, with a gentle
peruse of a BMW dealership but I didn't stop, just examined their front
lawn, then another KTM and Ducati and Kawasaki and Suzuki and Honda
dealership, then a Kawasaki and Yamaha and Suzuki dealership.

I looked at new and used, but mostly new. I think I've ruled out some of the
cool Italian twins which I would really like, but would end up being garage
queens. Might take half a day off Tuesday to go collect one. Haven't decided
how much any new bike has to fit into the Troll stable. I do have 2 pretty
seriously in mind though. Both Japanese, both with less than 4 cylinders.
One all rounder, and one which is considered to be an all rounder, but which
fits within the stable pretty well as a niche machine.

You know, you've narrowed it down to just a couple of choices by
saying your NEW BIKE would be Japanese. Let's see! In the sporting
arena there are only Japanese twins or:
1) Another SV-650 only new this time.
2) The new Kawasaki 650 Twin.

It seems you've owned all the rest DL-1000 & didn't like it (SV-1000
would be very much like the old DL-1000 that you hated). The Yamaha
MT-01 is not really not a sport twin, so forget that one. Honda's
pretty much out of the twin market for 07 so forget the RC-51, so what
does that leave but old used RC-51'a VTR's & TL-R or S' & old Jamama
900 Parellel twins's in the Japanese twin market.

OBTW: We have a new 06 Silver Sprint in the group with 7 VFR's now.
This fellah's religated his SV-1000 faired model to track duty and
bought the 06 Sprint used with three bags like my old one but the new
1050 and only paid $8K OTD for it. We all were comparing it to DJ's 06
Silver VFR with bags this morning. Looks pretty damned close except
for the 115RWHP triple vs 100HP VFR and slightly smaller hard bags. He
didn't get the ABS model either. I guess what I'm saying is you might
broaden your search just a tad to include the Brit triples and maybe
the ecomomical Italian Guzzi's too.

So spring for the Road King CVO. It's fly by wire, concealed and
individually operated ABS, and puts out 115 ft*lbs of torque at 3k
rpm. All that at the bargain basement price of $30k, but what the
hell, you're approved!

Another good one that my local KTM dealer sells. They don't sell the
big twins however. They claim KTM requires them to purchase $30k in
proprietary tools before allowing them to sell those models.

Defintely looked at them. $5999, plus I might be able to swap out my Penske.

The DR 650 is no slouch either although I would prefer the lighter and
more powerful DRz 400

That seems a bit harsh! But i suppose the want dealerships who can do
the job. My mate with the SuperDuke gets his bike serviced in
Auckland.....a four hour ride from home. So he usually leaves the night
before to get to the dealer at opening time and does a night ride home
when it's ready.

He started losing water so they needed to hang onto his bike to sort it
out....it's been two weeks now and they have got back to him to let him
know it was the water pump. A new 'improved' shaft is winging it's way
from Austria.....so it will be interesting to see if the water pumps
turn out to be a weak spot.

The shop has lent him a 1050 ST Triumph until his bike is ready....they
had better hurry or there won't be any tread left on the Triumph!
