well, i've changed my setup to completely ignore mime and not send any
mime headers hopefully, so whatever i quote will just be the ascii
payload of whatever anyone originally sent. that may or may not be a
better experience for everyone.

Ant's post used the ISO-8859-1, and QP encoding.
Dog's port used UTF-8, and straight 8-bit text.
Agent was happy with the former, but not the latter, and the subsequent
posts from you and Champ used basic 7-bit ascii, which changed things
