How far to your ride route - Man I think Serge is going to win this one but lets go anyway. How long does it take to get to a fun stretch of road or off road route for you? That would be about 35 minutes for me. HWY 2 to PA. I will descibe the trip in a tale later. Lets hear

Well, if you were going to ride in the winter.... - What would you ride? I figure a FJR1300 (older model... you know the one that cooks your marbles (or canoe)) sounds good.... shaft drive to keep the (Ontario) salt out too. The only thing would be trying to stabilize a 600lb bike if you ever..

Woooo hooo .. got out for a ride.. - A friend and I got out today [ Ontario / 7 Deg ], it was great.. reeeeal deep water runs , great uphills.. even got onto the sand mx track.. Wish it stayed like this all winter.. 9 deg.. mmmmm ..

I guess that's probably the case.......different butt different seat
needs. I've ridden some bikes that seemed like the seat was
perfect.......soft, hugs the cheeks, pillow-like but after 30 minutes I was
standing up and squirming around.(CB750 custom saddle) Yet my RD400 seat
was fairly hard and I rode it for 3-4 hours at a time no problem.

Yeah I hear you. Hoave you ever had a brand new anything?
I haven't.

Steve

I had a new 400cc Yamaha Maxim in 1982 as well as a 400cc Yamaha snowmobile
and my first new car was a 1962 MGB. Most of my cars have been new but the
last 4 bikes have been used but looked like new.

Most people start out with a smaller bike and gradually move up until they
find something they are satisfied with. I bought and sold a few bikes before
settling on the current one and if I had bought new I would have taken a
bath each time I sold. At least with used you can get most of your money
back a year later if you look for a bargain when you buy. Also, a lot of
money is spent adding accessories to new bikes bikes and if you buy used you
may get them virtually for free.
My advice would to buy new only if you are very sure of what you want.

I had an FZR600 a few years back. The longest ride I took on it was a
2 hour highway jaunt. By the end of it, I was happy to get off of it.

I'm a short little bugger. I have to stretch a little farther than
most to reach the clip-ons of most sportbikes, and I think that
affects the comfort level for me. 5 hours in a day would be doable
for me, but I'd need a break between the two tanks of gas it would
take.

Hayabusa's are actually built for sport-touring (GSX-1000R, note the
position of the R), not corner scratching. I've never ridden one, but
those who have say that the ergonomics are pretty good, and nowhere
near as extreme as something like a GSX-R1000 (again, R position
denotes purpose)

I know that people tour all over the place on pure-focused sportbikes.
I know of a group of young guys who rode out to Vancouver Island this
summer. It's doable, but you can't tell me that they were as
comfortable as they would have been on something a bit more upright.

The problem with generalizations is that someone always comes along
with an exception to the generalization.

I concur with Sean, you should try a VFR. I occasionally ride with
three of them and they seem to have all the qualities your are looking
for.

Ride safe.

At the time I was shopping around the Gxxr was a bit too track oriented

vstrom

good all round bike, plenty quick, good suspension for rough roads,
cheap

I did an 8000 km 8 day trip on it - performed flawlessly.

The Volusia seat I had seemed perfect but the longer you sat on it, the more
the faom compressed and after about 30 mins you could feel a lump at your
tailbone which was on the base of the seat under the foam. The harder seats
are actually better but they need a thin layer of padding.
After 2 uncomfortable bikes I was beginning to think that Suzuki had shares
in the companies that made aftermarket seats. The Mustang seat was very
comfortable. Surely, Suzuki has the technology and experience to make a
seat.

I think they put that knowledge into the sport bikes. The seats on the
suzi's were always touted as the best. Until 06 anyway.

Oh man I don't like the look of the V-Strom at all. It's like the
Avalanche or Sport-Trac of the truck world.....totally different look with
all utility focus.

One of those 2 bikes was a sport bike. I sense that you want a sport bike
regardless and don't want to be confused with anything that'll change your
mind Wink there's a generation difference between u (I'm 66) . When you are

That's hilarious man.....Sid is 66 this year(father-in-law) I think maybe
he's stuck in midlife though Smile I wouldn't call it a crisis because he's
enjoying it so much.....you sense pretty well master jedi i have wanted a
sport bike all my life. However I have not logged any serious saddle time
and want to get all the info I can about your rides of the past present and
future so I have more information to guide me in my purchase. I am thinking
about the VFR800 a bit........I also like the Triumph675.....my favorite
bike in my dreams is the GSXR750(see picture if I'm allowed to attach one)
we'll see there are a lot of months till it's time to purchase.

Before I consider a Triumph I would check to see if they are still using
Lucas electrical parts. It seems the only thing that lucas ever built
that worked was a vacuum, and it sucked.

Ride safe

Man that ws funny! That seems to me to be the only thing that detracts
from the Triumph. I don't know enough about the reliability of it or
anything. The Zook has a proven track record and is very reliable. God I
hate Winter.

My friend has Triumph ST... I think he has something like 97,000 km on
it with only regular maintenance. There is no sign of it wearing out yet...

I agree with you on Ebay. I suppose if you traded many bikes per year
your would get a decent deal on average (most good, and the occasional
dog), but buying just one bike seems a bit risky. Although I think most
sellers are pretty honest... I might buy a bike on Ebay but I would
have to drive to the seller and check it out first.
