Post subject: How fast does Darwin work?

I ask because a person I know, I won't call him a friend, currently
riding a CBR125 on which he's managed less than 2000 miles on since
May 2006. He's recently passed his DAS at the age of 21, and seems to
think getting a brand new R6 in May, once he's fleeced his dad for the
deposit, is a good idea.
Furthermore, when I suggested he get something sensible - something
UKRM would recommend - he claimed that a brand new R6 is the only bike
he'll be able to get on with, as 'when you've wanted something for so
long, you just know it's going to be right'.
As an aside, he's currently using NCB he gathered from his 2 years on
a 50cc scooter to insure his CBR, which is fair enough, but should
insurance companies really accept this on a policy for what is
essentially a track bike with lights and a plate?
What say you?

Cheeky sod.
I've only crashed (properly) once, and that was after more than 10000
miles of good(ish) riding.
This chap got SMIDSY'd overtaking a car turning into a side street
after about 600 miles on his CBR - got impatient and the car wasn't
indicating, looking for the correct turning.

About 20 years ago, I know a bloke that passed his test on a 125 and

My 1st bike was a 600 - nowt wrong there - in fact I know of 2 others that
got 600's after their test.

Well, I went from MZ 250 to BMW 100 RT aged 21 and lived to tell the
tale. Not quite the same but there is some equivalence. Stop worrying
about other people is my advice.

I went from 250LC to R80ST at age 21 and the performance was about the
same
