Well, I'll have to admit that a lot of the fascination fades when the

Scenery sometimes gets in the way.
The better the scenery, the more you usually have to concentrate on
the road instead.

That kind of brought it home.
It started out with them remembering people in the city being on party
lines still.
Our first phone (in England) didn't even have a dial.
You picked up the receiver and waited for the operator to respond and
then told them what number you wanted.

That was like 1900 right?
I'm ashamed to admit to not getting my Atari 2600 until 1982ish. Or being issued
my copy of "Frampton Comes Alive" in the late 70's. I didn't get a copy of "Bat
out of Hell" (vinyl) until 86' and having owned it in every format BUT 8track.

History does not record anywhere at any time a religion that has any rational
basis. Religion is a crutch for people not strong enough to stand up to the
unknown without help. But, like dandruff, most people do have a religion and
spend time and money on it and seem to derive considerable pleasure from
fiddling with it.

2600 we got in the early 80s. We had a Pong before that.
Never bothered with Frampton although I liked a couple of songs.
He went straight downhill after leaving Humble Pie. Saw him warm up
for Uriah Heap in London once. Still pretty lame despite the obvious
talent with the guitar. Poor song writer.
I think I picked up Bat Out of Hell for one of the kids at a garage
sale on CD.

OK you win. I recall party lines when I was a kid but we had dial
phones.

I recall driving from Vancouver to Seattle so I could pick up the
first Pong game commercially available. I bought Frampton Comes Alive
when it first came out and still have it. Bought Bat Out of Hell when
it first came out and still have it. Add to the list almost all of the
Beatles albums, most of Rod Stewarts early stuff and of course Dark
Side of the Moon. Yes I still like vinyl and still play them crackles,
pops and all.

US too, but earlier. I remember my aunt still had a crank phone, where
you turned a crank on the side to ring a bell at the central office that
got the operator's attention, then you told the operator how to direct
your call. It was similar in appearance to one of the top two at
http://www.customphones.com/productCat40686.ctlg.
