Has anybody had any particularly good or bad experiences with Yamaha dealers
in Southern California? I am pretty much set in getting a 2005 Yamaha V-Star
Custom 650. Now I am shopping for a good reliable dealer, as some say
choosing a good dealer is just as important as choosing the right make and
model.

Thanks for you opinions.

Julie,

Try Motoworld in El Cajon. Talk to Sean, a sales manager there. I've bought 8
or 9 (maybe more, gulp!) motorcycles there over the last 5 years and am
extremely happy.

Good prices can be found at LAYAMAHA; not sure about the service. They are in the Marina DelRay area. I was able to get within $200 of that price and stay in my area at T.O. Kaw Yamaha. They have been excellent with their service and are about the most honest bunch I have run into in a long time.

I've talked with LaYamaha before when I was looking at the Honda Ruckus
scooter
(http://powersports.honda.com/scooters/model.asp?ModelName=Ruckus&ModelYear=2005&ModelId=NPS505).
They seem like a typical bunch of salespeople, not exactly what I'm looking
for.

I will certainly look into T.O. Kaw Yamaha tho, especially since you feel
they are honest. Integrity is very important to me.

Montclair Yamaha has a really good service department. They did a full fuel
injection re-calibration on my '04 FZ6 after a dealer in my home town of Las
Vegas told me that everything was adjusted correctly following the
replacement of a defective TPS even though my mileage had dropped from a 42
mpg average when new to 32 mpg after the repairs. They took the bike in
right away since I was on vacation and had it fixed in four hours including
a 12,000 mile service. Now the bike is averaging nearly 50 mpg. Power is up,
too. I highly recommend the dealership. Everyone there was friendly and
helpful. BTW, I only paid for the 12,000 service ($214 including a new air
filter).<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I got my FJR at Mission Motorsports in Laguna Nigel. They seem to be on top
of things pretty well. Especially since I prefer them over Hahm, which is
not even five minutes from my house, but Mission is almost 30 miles south
for me. Hahm just seemed to be a selling machine, where Mission actually
talked to you.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
