I have K & N filters on two of my bikes (Concours and PC 800). They work
just dandy. Performance is at least as good as stock and in the case of
the Honda, MUCH cheaper than the OE unit even if you don't factor in the
fact that it is reusable (OE unit is over $60.00!!!).

I don't care about any performance increase.
I just want a non disposable filter that I can take out, clean, oil and put
back in.
It's more of a moneysaver for me.

I have a K&N in a my V-Strom 1000, and like it. It breathes just a
little better, and with the "Recharger" package from K&N it lasts
forever with some maintenance. Cost savings was my main goal, though
more air is better with pipes and FI mods, which mine has. However,
for really dirty missions (like riding in Mexico, or much dry sand/
dirt unpaved semi-offroading I put a suzuki Paper filter in, cause
those do keep the fine stuff out a little better. Most the time, the
K&N does great, however. Nothing worrisome gets into the airbox
during normal operating for a streetbike, and "recharging it" saves
money and materials.

I also have pipercross air filter on my Triumph 675, and that is not
quite as re-useable, but it had a very noteworthy performance
increase! (FWIW)

I've had a a direct replacement for OEM for my Valkyrie for seven
years. Its not a performance part but it pays for itself after a
couple of cleanings./

I did a trackday at the end of July.
That's the last time I rode, so yup that's the truth, but I've had the same
K&N in the Daytona since 2001.

Wow, I've had about 4 bikes since then! I even put a K&N in one of
them.

No more often than even someone who piles on miles like me needs to
change one, I can't see a big advantage to the K&N unless you just
plan to keep a bike around forever. They do flow air well though. I
might get them for the Warrior (it uses two btw). In my experience,
the twins seem to get better gains on the filter/pipe mods.

Stop taking your bikes to shops that burn down.

Any performance gains depent on the bike's stock air cleaner. I put
one on my Truimp ST and along with a 2-bros pipe and aggressive FI ECU
I got about 5 HP over stock at about 103-104'

Also a nice thing about K&N is they can be cleaning over & over but
some say they don'y keep the dust out of the engine as well as the
stock ones.
