Hello,

I'm in the middle of my first valve adjustment on a '99 VStar 1100
Custom. Have a question about when the rear cylinder is really at TDC
on the compression stroke. The service manual says to look for "T|"
in the window, however what I have marked on the rotor is really "|T
|F|". By the time I see "T", the vertical "|" to its right has
already rotated out of view. Anybody know if the manual is right in
what it's saying, or do they really mean "|T", not "T|", because I
don't have "T|" side by side? Another thing I noticed is that when
the vertical bar is perfectly lined up with the notch in the window,
the hole in the sprocket and the notch on the cylinder head body
aren't really lined up. Which one should I be paying more attention
to, the sprocket or the bar in the plug hole?

Thanks!

Neither. Watch the cams. As long as the lobes are away from valves,
you're good.
