Cold weather...
The white stuff commonly known as snow....got the first flakes couple
of days ago, nothing staying on the ground here yet but thats not too
far off....
Ice....
Oh and did I mention that I have to do my motorcycle license (german
license) in the middle of all this....
Which means like 12 hours of riding under varied conditions (night /
day, city, highway, etc.)
I am used to riding in 2 inch deep water no problem, but this is gonna
be a lil new...
And advice as to riding under the above conditions...Gonna be riding a
Suzuki Bandit, I know that...and of course only if the weather isnt
"too bad" but....still, I rather find out what to watch out for, and
figure out what to do and not to do the easy way instead of the hard
way =)
And no, no waiting until spring time, not about to let some stupid
snow flakes stop me!!!! =) >> Stay informed about: Warning: On Topic Post, read at your own risk |

Solid H2O, reduced tire performance, slowed reaction time/hypothermia and
poor visibility (fogging, ice and snow on the visor) are a concern when
temperatures are below 0 C/32 F. Riding on dry roads well below the freezing
point, as we are often tempted do up here is just foolish. Even if the road
appears dry, frost/ice can lurk in the shadows and your tires may suddenly
let you down - literally (rubber hockey pucks slide good too). After a while
your reactions will suffer (despite decent winter clothing). Riding in snow
is right out. Riding on ice without studded tires is right out.
But, I think what you are dealing with in Germany is riding at or near the
freezing point. Generally, air temps will have to be below 0 C for a few
days before the ground temp drops to zero and snow starts to accumulate on
the street. Snow, is not a big deal unless it is accumulating or shows signs
of accumulating (which it will do on grass before it does on pavement). If
snow is starting to build up on the grass you've got to get off the street.
So if its snowing dress well. Wear good rain gear. Ride with confidence.
Traction will be as good as in rain. Be as visible as possible. Cagers will
have even more trouble seeing stuff.
If snow is accumulating - do not ride! Riding at night in snow is really
wrong.

ps
Where I come from its more cold than wet. Folks living around the Great
Lakes might have some good wet winter riding tips.

And watch it over bridges - they really do freeze up before the ground does.
