Post subject: Got my VSTAR back!!
Archived from groups: alt>motorcycles>yamaha (more info?)

About 10 days ago, I posted that the rear end on my 650 VSTAR had gone
out AGAIN.

Last time, about 3K miles ago, it was the collar/pinion. They replaced
that and the ring gear, etc. They did not replace the drive shaft.

THIS time, it was the drive shaft spline that ripped out. The mechanic
thinks that it must've been damaged by the collar spline going out.
This time they replaced everything. We shall see.

I guess buying the Yamaha Extended Service contract was a good deal It
cost me about $700. So far, I've gotten back about $1350 of it...grin.
Had I not had it, I'd've been pretty adamant that this failure was
their fault and they should pay to fix it.

cheers

bob
