Any thoughts on tire selection for a 2005 FJR1300? Mainly commuting....
rain or shine. How many miles can I expect out of a set of tires on a bike
this heavy?

Macadams go well on my 1300, although bt020's are also supposed to be good.

I've put the Dunlop 220s on the xjr and they are excellent. I had
previously used avon azaros, which were also good and I would think a
very good option for the FJR, especially against macadams.

How many miles are you getting out of your tires? Does the front last longer
then your rear? I have heard a lot of touring guys get two rears out of
every front.

I am hoping to wear out the tires I have now in the next two or three months
so I can have fresh, deep tread ready for the rain season.

Only had the Dunlops for about 500 miles so far but the Azaros lasted
well enough (couple of seasons). I wouldn't say the front Azaro could
do a full two rears on the XJR though, I found it went off a bit as it
wore down, hence my change to the Dunlops to gain a better front end
feel, then again the XJR does seem to be a bit harsh on the front tyre
and she possibly now needs springs! I prefer better feel and handling
to longevity but believe the Azaro is a very good compromise for
mileage. The best tyres I have had on the XJR are the Dunlop 207s but
they do wear out quite quickly indeed!!

Macadam rear, the best I've had is about 12k, and the yes the front should
see off 2 rears, depending on your riding style, ie continual heavy front
braking will reduce the possibility.

I've stuck with what Yamaha designed the thing around, if they can't get it
right with millions of Yen investment then who can.

Also Michelin have changed he tyre design so the old Macadam 90's are going
for a song. a pair for £165 fitted ?
