Gawd, it's bad enough going through Heathrow when you've a nice
destination to look foward to.

No - apparently we don't get to sit inside aeroplanes or lie injured on
runways awaiting a cup of tea.

<heh!> Can anyone compare the check-in/security delays at T3 with
those at T4 for me? I have to try to work out how much time to allow for
getting through; T4 is getting on for three hours before flight lately.

Just like the other "measures", this one baffles me too. Last time
through, I took my laptop out the backpack, but still in the opaque zipped
case I carry it in (the greatly named Gimp). I put the Gimp in the little
tray, and nothing was said! What's with that?

When was that? When I last went on December 9th it was a 45
minute queue to get to the "Bag Drop" even though I'd already printed out
my boarding pass (as had everyone else; you can't queue for cattle-class
until you've electronically checked in, either via the Internet or at the
little terminals in the hall). Then several minutes to get into the
security entrance (the queue was back out to the boarding-pass check so we
couldn't move until it did) and another long wait to get to the X-ray
machines. ISTR 1hr20min to get through it all, and that's not counting
the 20-25 minutes to get to T4 (or the 40-minute bus ride).

Two hand items came in after my last flight; 7th January says the
Man from BA. Brunei's website still says one piece, less than 7 kg;
airline's regs trump BAA's.

Some airlines are ignoring the BAA limits as they also operate from
airports run by other authorities, who have not been given new baggage
limits by the government. Easyjet are one: quite reasonably they want a
universal policy across the UK, as the current system is bound to cause
conflict at check-in desks.
