Coming back from Iraq after 6 months in Jan. My SV1000 has been in
storage, in a warm climate the whole time. Has about 1800 miles on it
now, and was serviced right before being stored.
Other than turning the key, and pulling in the clutch, do I need to do
anything to the engine prior to starting it? It hasn't been started
the entire time.
Thanks >> Stay informed about: Starting bike after 6 months |

You might want to charge the battery and put in some fresh fuel. Glad you
are home.

I would spray a little oil in the spark plug holes 1st (tiny bit) and put the
bike in 5th & roll it forward to move the pistons slowly.
Probably overkill; but if there's any chance of rust.....
start it & then change the oil once warmed up....

Welcome back
Six months is not that long for a bike to sit. You will probably need
to charge the battery. The gas and oil should be fine. No need to
squirt oil in the cylinders. I wouldn't bother trying to build oil
pressure before starting it. Just don't rev the piss out of it when it
first fires up. Check the air pressure in the tires.
