Do chain rivetting tools do chains the size of camchains? I know it would
be best to buy an endless one but I really can't be annoyed tearing my bike
to bits for the job when there is an easier solution. I remember doing a
GSX250 umpteen years ago and I held a hammer to one side of the chain while
my brother thumped lumps out of the other side. (Cue Champ's symphony: An
arrangement of hammers) This is possible but seems just a little crude and
I would constantly worry that I hadn't done it right and it would let go at
10k rpm.

I've used percussive fixing several times on soft camchain links. As
long as you do the job properly (support the other side of the link,
make sure the soft end is properly peened over, check that the link
moves freely) it's fine.

My chain tool would not adapt to a camchain, I had to hit it.

Mine allegedly does - if you're near Farnham you're welcome to borrow
it and find out....

What make is it? Do you know. Because if it's the Farnham I'm thinking
about I'm only about 400 miles from you.

Yup, 400 miles or more. Be a bit of trek for a chain rivetter.
