Post subject: Roadstar Recall
Archived from groups: alt>motorcycles>yamaha (more info?)

This post was a week or two old, but I wanted to fire it back up again.
Here's my take on the recall:

I have a 2001 RoadStar, that was not affected by the recall. I feel lucky
that I do not have to send my bike to the shop here right at the begining of
the
season. Many of the people I ride with have Road Stars that ARE affected by
this recall. I think the thing that bothers me the most, is the way that
Yamaha is dealing with
this situation. All the shops in my area have a waiting list a mile long.
Yamaha says not to ride your bike untill this recall has been performed.

I understand that this is a big repair, (time consuming) but it seems that
Yamaha could find some other way to deal with it. There must be some way to
get
everyone taken care of in a timely fashion.

I still have to say, that even if my bike were affected.... I would still
tell anyone thinking about buying a Roadstar to GO FOR IT.

I've test driven the FatBoys etc. and sure Harley has done a great job
brainwashing everyone into believing that they must spend all their money
on a sub-standard cruiser... all that aside, I feel like the 1602 roadstar
has
more power, a better feel, and is an overall better value (and a better
bike!) than
all the others out there!

Put some Vance and Hines longshots pipes on there and replace the stock
seat. You'll be good to go. Here is a photo of my bike.

Ride on,

The original post was mine and I thank you for your input. Having not had
any experience with Yamaha, I have decided I will either buy post-recall or
require the seller to provide proof that the recall has been done by a
certified Yamaha mechanic. I just don't have the patience to wait or the
trust level required to surrender such valuable stuff to just anyone.

Your bike looks great...I like the solo saddle on the Road Star.

One thing I didn't mention in my earlier post on this issue is the fact that
you can have some high performance parts installed for nothing if you have
the recall work done. Because they have to disassemble the motor anyway you
can get new H C pistons installed, pipes, ported manifold and so on. I don't
worry about such things, I just like to cruise but I can respect those who
are trying to wring every horsepower out of the bikes as well. I got the
high power/ high horsepower stuff out of my system (for the most part) years
ago with a Mustang, Barracuda and a 'modified' Monte Carlo.
