Ok, what's the deal with these tires? I have access to a pair of new RS2
medium compound for damn near nothing. I don't intend to get my bike on the
track anytime soon, so these would be used on the street if I were to get
them. Aside from a short life span, what else could I expect from these
tires? Are they enough of a race tire that they just won't heat up propery
on public roads? I enjoy a brisk pace, but I'm certainly not the fastest
guy in the neighborhood.

My other alternative is to order up another set of Z6s. I've been pretty
pleased with them aside from an occasional slide when riding faster than I
should be on the street.

Thanks!

After installing an RS3 rear and a RS2 front and after a 20 mile dice
with an local R1 down H89 from Alices... all I can say is...
R-none MrRC45 one... and I was being nice...

I have access to a pair of new RS2

Half and half... while the front will be sorted out... you'll need to
find RS Rennsports to fit the Whales narrow rear rim size before the
rear is sorted out...

I found that the Metzeler Rennsports will heat up just like any other
street tire... in fact I've never been at a lost for grip even while the
tire was consider unready and deemed to too cold for corners...

Well, thank you for the responses. I knew inside that this was a bad idea
but I just didn't want to admit it. The RS2s are cheap and available now
where I won't have my new Z6 until probably Wednesday. Oh, the agony of
impatience!!! If I had a set of leathers, I would be at a racetrack with
the RS2s in a heartbeat. Hell, I wouldn't have had to ask if that were the
case!

Nobody else will want these. One of the reasons that they are so cheap is
because of the size-they are a 110 front and a 150 rear. I'll be happy to
take you up on your offer Troy, but you will be getting the short end of the
stick unless you have an antique trackbike stuffed into the garage
somewhere.

My bike doubles as a moderate canyon fun bike and an occasional commuter.
Race tires weren't going to last long, but they might have been fun for a
few weekends of goofing off. My days of assumed invincibility are long gone
through a few hard lessons-I know I would not see the true potential of RS2s
without a racetrack. The Z6 is MUCH more appropriate for my needs.

Thanks again,

Go get them. Now. Immediately. And then schedule a track day at your nearest
facility to see how good they are. Better yet...go buy them, then sell them
to me for $5 more than you paid for them. I'll pay shipping and give you my
address. Let me know how much and where and who to send the money to.

The life span depends.....otherwise.....they stick well, last longer than
any racetire should, even for street work, and if you get them up to
something near operating temp? Yee-Haw!

Probably, unless you are one seriously wacked canyon rider a nano-second
away from dying young and heroically.

Then I'll buy them off you. Hell....how about this...you mail them to me,
I'll have a new set of Metzler M1's delivered to your door. Sound fair?
Perfectly wonderful tire, works great on the street up to and including some
pretty fast canyon riding, lasts alot longer than the RS2, particularly the
front ( depending on riding style and speed of course ) and work better in
the rain I imagine.

Whats a Z6?

Email me if interested in my deal.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I think he should try Tomahawk Racing slicks instead.

And he might well be the type to try it, unf. Hope not, though.

I don't approve of race tires on the street. They almost always suck
in the rain. Given sufficient time, they may indeed warm up, but
they're designed for a different set of conditions than encountered in
most street situations.

That's a fairer deal that he knows.

I can't believe you went to the track with a Rennsport front and M1
rear. I'd have paid money to watch you slide all over the place.

However, seems like it demonstrates one concept: with a
sufficiently-planted front, often we can "ride around" problems with
the rear. I, too, have pushed RS1/SC1 compound Rennsports/Pirellis
long beyond the point they should have still worked.

Keep in mind, however, how humbling (and impressive) it can be
watching a buddy turn still faster laps on street tires, riding a
comparable bike. Local Kawi shop owner Mike, on an '04 ZX6-RR, turned
slightly faster laps than me with Diablos mid-summer. I was pushing
harder, on Dunlop D208GP-As, but Mike's just that much faster. I had
a great time chasing (and rarely overtaking) him, but he'd come back
with a vengeance later in the lap.

"No Fear," indeed.

Metzeler Z6. Many FJR owners speak well of them. I'll try a set on
my Blackbird when the Bridgestones croak, probably late '05 at this
rate.

Someone weaned on Z6's, contemplating RS2s, should probably
immediately sell the latter to you and buy more Z6s.

Damn......yup....those sizes are a bit off for either bike I've got. I
figured for SURE it was either 120/60 120/70 or a 160/17 180/17 and I could
have made any of those work on either bike.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Ping Shawn and ask him what he thought about watching it lap after lap. I
think its the only reason he didn't pass me, he wanted to see what happened
when it ALL went bad, versus just boosting out of the seat.

Well...the front was sufficiently planted but a full stick racetire anymore
it wasn't. But it HAS lasted an amazingly long time, considering. The RS1 on
the front of the 750....we'll see how long that one goes used only as a
track tire.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
