You're starting a project to convert Champ into a hill climber .... ? (the
mind boggles!)

Not exactly. He has, however, expressed an interest in doing *a* speed
hill climb next year. To add to the fun I have suggested he borrow my
Nordwest to do it on so that he can confirm his prejudices against
singles once and for all. The Nordie hasn't run in anger for two seasons
so it needs a bit of fettling. I have kept meaning to get around to it
anyway, but the mental picture of Champ blatting up Prescott, Wiscombe
or Loton on a single has given me the impetus.

The CR33 Keihin smoothbores I lent to someone have gone back on a treat
this afternoon and a schedule of dilapidations has been drawn up.
Nothing really that didn't need doing anyway: cam belt change, new
battery and a bit of tinkering like a new fuel line. How he will fancy
the 5 year old Phantoms (not corsas) is debatable, although they have
plenty of tread and a good profile.

He should feel a bit of empathy with the bike, as it competed on Pahnd
Island in 96 and 97. on the Ramsey 2.5 and 5 Km hill climbs. It is bored
to 604cc with trick carbs, gas-flowed head and race exhaust. 55 BHP on
the dyno when it was last tested.

FFS, it's only a potter up a hill on a big single, they'll be fine.

That is unless they too will fit one of my bikes, in which case they are
an absolute death-trap and it would be criminally irresponsible not to
take them off and leave them on the front step.

Or with a neighbour Wink

Heh ! Not the right size for the Zed. Wasted on a Harley. Ah, but BTW,
the HD1200 was second in the road legal championship and only a few
points behind the winner. He did do a lot of rounds (including a few
which the rest of us didn't do) though and got an extra point for each
as he rode the bike to them.

Only if I can be sure of being able to scrub new ones in properly before

I've been waiting for your response and I half expected it to be along
these lines Wink

Still I'm sure you'll draw a big crowd for next year's event.

Don't worry I won't hold you to it. I really did need to get the
Nordwest operational again, but if you do want to give it a try the
offer is still there.

In my capacity as Road Legal Secretary I have just received a very
provisional fixture list for next year. Shall I email it?
