Archived from groups: uk>rec>motorcycles (more info?)

M25 this morning. Well, the old SRAD was reading between 70-75mph
sitting behind them and I dont know how (in)acurate it is. Nobody
seemed to want to pass them anyway.

I was once told by a police motorcyclist (off duty taking me on an
advanced road riding course) that anything upto 80 and they're not be
interested.

What do you do? Sit there behind them? Creep past? Wait for someone
else to creep past then follow? Go past at 85? Sit there and hope they
take the next exit?

Once before I crept past, pulled about 3/4 mile gap then started to
speed up a little bit only to be caught up & nicked for 85! Was that
me being a stupid cunt or them being fucking arseholes?

In the end I crept past (75-77mph on my clock).

Drop right back, like about 1/2 a mile, back up the traffic behind you so
you have a fairly clear run - change down, accelerate as hard as you can
gaining as much speed as possible, undertaking if necessary, fly by them at
130 Very Happy

Then when they stop you and tell you what speed you were going say "Thats
bullshit, i was doing a good 10mph faster than that!"

I usually go past at an indicated 80-ish, and have never been pulled for
it.

What part of
"anything upto 80 and they're not be interested."
is causing you some confusion?

Go past a little bit faster than them - much as you did. But don't then
nail it.

I tend to find (in Surrey, anyway) that they sit at 60 to let people go past.
You don't get the big tailback that way (though some stupid cunts just refuse
to go faster than them at all, thus causing 2 lanes to travel at 60 and back up).

Why so slow? Get up to a decent speed - 170 or so, and there's even a
fair chance they might not get your number down.

They must've read your little piece about racing to work, the other day.
Wink

But generally they're gits that way. I got done in exactly the same
circumstances a while back. Apparently he saw me go past on my FJ12 and
thought I was more 'interesting' than the surrounding cars so he let me
get about 1/2 a mile ahead and then started timing me under bridges.

Shit happens.

I've actually done this. it wasn't a traffic car, and it was on the
A46 (normal A road, not a dual carriageway).

Yep the Vascar system, but I'm told if you change lanes between bridges they
cannot
nick you as your recorded distance does not correspnd to theirs

Dunno how true this is, but I change lanes just for paranoia's sake Smile

Ain't gonna work if they're using a stop watch and the milometer.

Hide in front of a truck[1]. And then... *don't* nail it, just sit there
for a couple of minutes. If they're interested in you, they'll whoosh up
the outside to regain sight of you, at which point you look round at them
with an air of urbane bemusement...

[1]IIRC they can't time you if they can't see you.

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember steve.TakeThisOut@spleen21.demon.co.uk (Steve
