Troy, remember the famous Rennsport streets? Two trackdays and the
rest street miles (1900 with maybe 500 left). Replacement 014s just
came in via UPS today. $240 vs $320 shipped.

http://members.cox.net/bigrex/Toast-1
http://members.cox.net/bigrex/Toast-2

As a comparison, the Sprint's 010/020 combo @ 4500 miles. Prolly do
5000 like the last set.

http://members.cox.net/bigrex/Toast-1
http://members.cox.net/bigrex/Toast-1

Replacements more of the same & cheap now that 014s are out.
$203 shipped.

How do you suppose Larry Xlax got 6000 miles out of these Rennsports?
No complaints about traction but mileage is typical at best for this
type tire. Larry may be smooth but would that account for 3X
difference? Even if his roads are less abrasive, hmmm.

BTW, I'm of the impression even an 010/020 combo on the GSXR would not
slide around on the street but the new 014s seem prudent. Maybe 3500
miles if I'm lucky.

Then even Vizmeg the tire miser couldn't squeeze 6000 miles out of
those Rennsports.

Pard... What's the tread depth???

I'm at the 3032 mile mark... see pic...

New Rennsport has a tread depth of 6/32...

Currently I have 4/32 tread depth at 3032 miles...

so I'm getting 1516 miles per 32 of thread wear... no???

I could end up with 6064 miles and still have 2/32 tread remaining...

http://www.fox302.com/index.pl?s=vf&user=netters2&category=ShopPics&fi...3032Mil

OK... one of the things mention at Tony Foale's Suspension Seminar might
shed some light on our wear disparity...

Low unpsrung mass is bad for comfort...
Low unpsrung mass is good for tires...

High unsprung mass is good for comfort...
High unpsrung mass is bad for tires...

I switched wheels from stock aluminum to 3 spoke Marchesini magnesium
plus I did a axle mod... together they equal about 8 pounds in lower
unsprung weight...

Also there's a difference in the way a V4 and an I4 applied force to the
tire... because a pneumatic tire acts like a spring but the rubber acts
as a damper when it flexes... maybe the long pause between power pulses
of V4 promotes less tire wear???

> Troy, remember the famous Rennsport streets?

Do I remember them? I went out and bought a pair of rears
for the mighty baby zook to use for trackdays, plus some
street miles afterwards just to see what all the fuss was
about.

>Two trackdays and the
> rest street miles (1900 with maybe 500 left).

My RS1 and RS2 combo's on the Honda went 2 trackdays, but by
1000 total miles were turning blue and squirrelly on street
riding, rear first, had no urge to push the front to see
what happened there.

>
> How do you suppose Larry Xlax got 6000 miles out of these
Rennsports?

I have not a single clue. He has been proclaiming the
superiority and life for quite some time, but I didn't have
an idea how he did it, particularly after I ran the race
tires. I didn't figure there was enough difference between
the race and street versions to allow a 5000 mile usage gap
between the 2. Hell, after running the Rennsport race tires
on the mighty baby zook, I STILL don't know how he did it.
My mighty 65HP can just rag the hell outta the rear RS2
tire, part of the reason I was willing to trade off some
traction for life with the street version....plus I was
curious if I could get 6000 useful miles out of them.

The only way I could imagine it would be if he spends all
his time puttering around like Mike with a plug wire missing
and a light throttle hand. I took Rennsport race tires to
VIR and Laguna, VIR with new wonderful pavement, and Lagunas
wasn't bad either, and all it took were one of those, a day
at Second Creek ( rougher pavement ) and 1000 street miles
and you were done, outstanding traction wise. I currently
have about 2000 street miles on a rear rs2 Rennsport and the
same on a front on the mighty zook, the tread on the silly
things lasts forever but the traction is gone, particularly
at the rear. I'm just longevity testing them at this point
in time, wouldn't dream of actually leaning on the things at
this point.

I think 3500 miles on a literbike on any tire is pretty damn
good, assuming its used the way the designers intended.

It's still got plenty of meat in the center but as you can see the
side walls are getting down past the edges of that crescent tread
pattern.

Pard, I'm just playing with you a little. I'm on the aggressive side
on tires, not as bad as some but less that others and run my pressures
in the middle 37/35 street and 30/29 on track days.

I know two fast guys, one with a bike like mine another an RC-51 The
guy with the RC, eats tires far worse than me and the other always
seems to be running one or two gears taller on the street, runs his
pressures over 40PSI & gets nearly twice the mileage out of his tires
as the 1st guy.

If you go on bikes alone, the RC should be easier on tires than a
1KGSXR but due to different styles the opposite is true.

Finally, our Arizona roads surfaces are rough as a cop and warmer than
most places, which would also account for general crappy tire mileage.

I'll keep you guys posted as to how these new 014s run. I suspect the
traction and mileage will be similar to the new Diablo Corsa's, all
the rage now. Those tires supposedly use your street Rennsport
compound but with a street based tread pattern.

Larry, I suspect all the above is secondary to your smooth riding
style and roads easier on tires.

BTW, enjoyed seeing your photos of the famous KR TZ750 flat tracker.
Hope to see at least a glimpse of you at seca this year -Smile

Pard... yep there's no groove on edge to measure but that's why I cut my
6K Rennsport in half... note with 2/32 tread depth in the middle there's
over 4/32 tread on the edge... so rest assured plenty of meat in the
middle means more than plenty of meat on the edge...

I'd recommend 39R /36F street and 28R /31F track... but here's the
kicker... check pressures after a hot lap session... if pressures have
not increased towards 39R / 35F then add air... you're not getting the
tire hot enough... to get the most traction go for less carcass flex...
tires exert perhaps the single most important influence over general
handling characteristics... so it pays to study to get pressures right...

Isn't there anything else for you two crusty fixed income codgers to
worry about than tire life? I swear, you and Bob need to get together
and compare fiber intake or something.

I'm sure it's really noticeable on the road. Especially after you top
up with 24lbs. of gasoline, 3 lbs. of diner eats and another 3lbs. of
radar/satellite radio crapola.

Hyperanalysing. The reason why you got lots of miles from your tire is
cause the RC45 puts out as much power as a modern day 600.

Bob is riding godzilla on wheels. For you two clowns to even conceive
of these motorcycles as comparable in any way shape or form is
tomfoolery.
