Post subject: Lowering pegs on a Blackbird?
Archived from groups: uk>rec>motorcycles (more info?)

For about a month now, I've been getting a nasty pain in my left ankle.
Bimbling up to Birmingham and back today, I realised that it's my new boots
that are making me flex my ankle a lot further downwards to reach the
gearshift. I used to use some touring boots with pretty thin soles, until
they became less than water resistant. Now I have some rather tasty boots
from HG, but the sole is probably 1/4 to 1/2 inch thicker.

Short of chopping a groove into the sole of the boot, is there any way of
lowering the pegs, or adjusting the position of the gear selector on a
Blackbird?

TIA.

Isn't it just a case of unbolting the gearshifter and moving it round on
the splines?

Heh.

Don't know about the BBird, but if the shifter is bolted straight onto
the shaft into the gearbox, then a quick adjustment on the splines is in
order.

ISTR it's a bit harder if it's on a linkage, though.

I bought a pair of boots that didn't fit properly a couple of years ago.

I took em back and got my money back. You might consider the same
radical action.

It's a fucking sight easier if it's on a linkage. They normally have
some method of gearchange pedal height adjustment built in.

Ah, but they fit just fine, and it took me the best part of 2 days and 3
shops to find a pair that did[1]. Besides having had them since just before
Christmas, and having done the best part of 2k miles since then in some of
the shittiest, road crap covered conditions I have ever known[2], they're no
longer in a return-able state.

[1] I have big calf muscles, lots of swimming and a bit of skiing does it
apparently.
[2] I suspect they are deliberately spraying grey muck onto the M4 in order
to boost sales of screenwash.

Daytonas then. Unless these are Daytonas, in which case I'd hate to
think of the size of you calf muscles.

Not at all. They fit my *feet*, which is the most important bit. If I can
modify the bike so that they fit the bike too, so much the better.

They're not, but I'll bear that in my for next time, cheers.

Fairy nuff ... I did a similar thing to the 9R when using the UberBoots
for commuting, but no sports bike was designed to put up with those
things (Sidi Top Action Evo MX boots. Lovely for commuting, but rather
large).

As others have said, it should just be a matter of slackening off one
nut/bolt and moving the lever round, or a bit of fiddling with the
adjuster if it's a linkage.

They utterly rock. Make every other boot I've used seem a bit pants by
comparison. Build quality is typically German, and they cost nowhere
near what they should. Make sure you try them on first though, rather
than doing the mail order thang, coz I found the waterproof ones came up
a lot smaller in the same size than the sports/race boots.

My Clubman Race were £119, less BearDiscount, my NonStops were £149;
both represented outstanding VFM.

Phoned the garage. "Piece of piss" to relocate gear selector. Going in on
Monday and they said they can do it while I wait.

Which is nice.
