Archived from groups: alt>motorcycles>yamaha (more info?)

Howdy,
I don't know where my last message dissapeared too but her's some new
questions...All of which are dealing with an 82 XJ 650...
1) Has anyone ever tried to put a single seater saddle on one of these bikes?
Is there anything on the market or am I going to have to build the thing
myself?
2) How much give should the front shocks have? They seem to give way too
much. When I stop short, even moving very slowly, The bike rocks back and
forth . If I had to slam on the brakes who knows what would happen...
Anyways, does this mean I have to do teh fork seal or can I just use the air
adjustable valves?
3) My brother has the same bikes but with silver dollar sized rust holes on
the bottom of the mufflers his bike sounds WAY more badass than mine. Are
there any custom pipes that can duplicate this? How much hp is he losing from
lack of backpressure? Is a 4 into 1 louder or have more hp? Are tapered or
turned out pipes any better or do they just look different?
5) On the XJ owners page, some guy has a customized XJ with chopper forks
sticking out. How possible is this to do? It seems like it would be a huge
pain. Yes? No?
Thanks for your help guys. I used to be on the list but the email was too much
for my provider.
Alex

1. Don't know
2. I believe you need new springs, but drain and refill the oil, it might
have gone sour. if it doesn't improve, get springs.

3. Don't know, but check denniskirk.com for aftermarket pipes. you'll have
to rejet, a whole can of worms. I don't know if your brother is losing
power, but he could burn valves.

4. there is no number four.

5. Choppers handle like shit. Avoid at all costs. HTH
