[[Created a new topic because last one was becoming a wild untamed
offtopic beast.]]

I've decided on the Kawasaki Ninja EX500 / 500R for my first bike. I
made a topic discussing what bike I should go for with my size and
price range. Overall the Ninja really won me over for a few reasons.

1) Price (less than $2,000 for older models)
2) Sporty Look
3) Standard Seating Position
4) Availability of Parts
5) Enough Horsepower to get me around, but not get me into trouble.
6) Resell availability when wanting to upgrade.

I'm taking my MSF training course in late July, hopefully shortly
thereafter buying a Ninja.

What do you think of my pick?
... and anyone have one for sale in central USA?

Thanks

You know, if you would just stop quoting that squirmy little bastard,
I wouldn't have to see his posts! Wink

I'd pony-up the extra bucks and get the 650 Kawi twin. It'd make a fine
first bike. But then, so would almost anything with two wheels and a motor.

I don't have one for sale (although I have TWO engines!) but I think
it's a great pick.

You do know what to look for when looking at a used bike, right?

Just a brief tidbit for you.

> 5) Enough Horsepower to get me around, but not get me into trouble.

Even scooters have enough horsepower to get you into trouble. Just go in
realizing that it's the loose nut behind the bars that controls whether you
get in trouble or not.

Who needs a kill file? As far as I can tell, only three or four people
have posted since April.

One that runs, and a good price?

And about 14 other things which somebody is sure to list for you now !!

But the two most important things won't be on the mechanical list.

Do NOT buy anything without a test ride. Only a fool does that, unless maybe
the price is ridiculously low.

Get a bike you feel comfortable riding. If it feels cramped, it's too
small. If it feels like it's going to tip over on you all the time, it's
too tall in the seat. If it feels like you have to wrastle it around
corners, it's too big for you (too heavy).

There is a "right" bike for almost everybody. It's not always the one you
think LOOKS best or the one your buddy has or the one that sounds cool. It
is the one that fits you best and you actually enjoy riding.

If it ain't fun, what's the point !!
