Has anyone used one of these jackets? They really are great in the heat,
almost like not wearing any jacket. I just wonder if they offer about that
much protection.

I don't like mine any more in this dry heat. Sucks ALL the moisture out
and leave me in the hot wind. My vented leathers feel cooler to me.

For sure, somebody has used one. In fact I was entering an Air Force base
gate the other day and the guard says, "Man, are those jackets on sale or
something? Every motorcyclist I see is wearing one." Which is a ringing
endorsement of the jacket's good comfort and low cost. There have been a
couple wreck reports on this NG and the jacket did fine, but that's too
small a sample to say I guess.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I use one, every day. All reports I have read say they protect well,
and you can claim them on insurance if they are damaged in an accident.
Mine was stiff at first, but now it fits like old jeans.

Best invention since the wheel. Haven't slid around an apex in mine, but I've
heard they protect as well as they cool. Get a light color as those have been
shown to be the coolest of all. Mine is yellow, and I've wornr it while
shopping the vendor areas at bike rallies for hours on end in 90F heat and its
no worse than wearing a tee shirt.

Is that his real name? BTW I have one of those myself. I wear it
inder my decorator leather when my son or wife is riding with me.
Can't wait to try it when it is hot out.

I've got the Sante Fe with leather arms. While moving it's like it
isn't even there.
I do recommend a light color though. Unfortunately mine is black and
when not moving I can really start to feel the sun.

Never put mine to the test and hope that I never have to.

From the testimonials that I've read it seems that they hold up really
well and even after a good slide can be used again.

Mine has zippers at the ends of the sleeves, no velcro bands to
tighten down like their cheapest all textile line. Personally I think
the velcro is a better idea as the zippers don't hug your wrist and I
can see the sleeves getting pulled back while sliding.

Also there's no inside pocket. A $200 jacket should at least have an
inside pocket : )

Just about all of the manufacturers have this type of jacket now. Check out
their web sites and you'll find a wide array of styles and costs. I just
bought a Teknic because they seem to fit us - ahem - stout men better than
JR. Fits good and yu sure get a good breeze through it when you're riding.
I found it new with tags on eBay for $70 including shipping. I've heard
some good thing about the Brosh jacket too, although I'm more interested in
the pants they offer.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

I'm afraid I've only heard bad things about them. I have the Reactor which
is almost the same but has 'leather' panels along with the mesh. The leather
is a joke though - so flimsy as to be less than useless in a crash. I rode
in it for a season before I started to see the reports on various message
boards. Yes the jacket is cool in the hot weather, extremely comfortable and
looks very nice, but as I'm sliding down the asphalt at 65 mph I'd be
wishing I'd worn my trusty Vanson perfs.
So that's what I do now, wear proper gear - the Joe Rocket is hanging up in
my closet.

Cheers, Bill
