Good point Betty - me and my stereotypes eh ? Funnily enough I
thought it was a simple enough question .. tho as always help was more
sparse than the smart arse answers .. I'm just as bad as anyone else tho
In short I said it didn't work for me and asked if something worked for
others then added what I'd changed that may affect it .. included the
exchange with Shannons 'coz I had the shits at the time ..
Besides the obvious PEBKAC (problem exists between chair and keyboard) I
was expecting a PICNIC (problem in chair not in computer) or
EyeDeeTenTee error (i d 1 0 t ).. I know there's others, but at the
moment, I can't think of any ..
Y!

That pretty much sums up my sentiments - I'm keeping XP for at least
that long - however I'm 'using' Vista to see how it goes - and to be
honest tho I am anti MS (nothing makes me swear like excel does, there's
only one thing it does I wish 123 did - we use Lotus at work),
surprisingly with Vista, I've only found one thing I feel I need that I
can't get to work (3ds max . I didn't mind OS2 or NT for that matter,
but in the name of (Bill's) progress there's no support for either.
Overall much to my personal chagrin I'm quite liking Vista itself - the
PC I have is grunty enough to absorb any bloatiness for the things I use
it for which includes some pretty serious gaming and modding. Though to
be honest I miss the pure simplicity of the Commodore 64. I wonder if
you can hack a USB port onto one .. then these days one could be
extremely handy.

Not entirely smartarse, though in restrospect I could've been a little more
descriptive.
Vista is a bad move altogether, moreso now before its 18-month core
servicepack cycle has completed.
Venture into any of the news.admin.* newsgroups and you'll note a distinct
lack of admins willing to allow their employers to switch the workforce to
Vista, despite the $$$ being waved at them by the Mickey$oft marketing
folk - the fact is, no Mickey$oft operating system is stable until at least
ServicePack 2 has been released[1].
[1] Windows/NT and OS/2[2] were different beasts altogether - NT was written
by DEC programmers, OS/2 was written by IBM.
[2] Yes, there _was_ a Mickey$oft version of OS/2 2.0, the development of
which they contributed to, but their marketing arm saw the damage it was
causing to the Windows market, so dropped it.

I'm the local guru at work and I find that the more I use/fix Vista the
more I'm determined to hang onto XP. I do have a version of Vista
running in a virtual machine for testing but it bluescreens on startup
about 25% of the time...

Still have my old C-64 set up & running in the study & must say I enjoy
using it still.
Much more so than the Vista ultimate I'm swearing at on the spare PC at
present.
Prefer XP & Linux over Big Brother Vista any day...reminds me of Win ME's
constant BSOD fun & games.

All other versions of Windows run fine in Virtual PC 2007. (I have every
version of Windows from DOS 6.22 and Win 3.1 through to Vista.)
It's only Vista that BSODs in a virtual machine. I've given it a Gig of
RAM to play with, leaving a Gig for the host.
My ex's new Toshiba laptop also has a lot of probs with Vista, BSODs,
freezing, apps crashing etc.
