Space shuttle just successfully landed at Edwards AFB in California,
incidentally making re-entry right over our town and rattling the rafters
with a really *robust* sonic boom.

This gave us time to turn on the T.V. and watch the touchdown as it
occurred.

Rah!

Where are you, Peter?

I'm about 50mi nw of LAX. I usually get the double whammy but didn't, this
time. What an incredible event, eh? It's a good time to be alive.

Redlands. A small town about 60 miles east of L.A.

Don't know why (atmospheric conditions maybe?), but we got the "BOOM-BOOM!"
over a minute before the reporters at Edwards -90 miles to our northwest-
heard it. In fact, we had time to figure out what it was, run to the living
room, turn on the TV and watch for a bit before the sonic boom got there.

I know it costs us more this way, but it's nice to see the Shuttle come down
out here on the west coast for a change!

Just found out why: the shuttle came in from the south, crossing over Sandy
Eggo and approaching Edwards from the south-east!

It's never been done before, and I didn't know it was even possible!

I thought the shuttle usually went subsonic somewhere between Bakersfield and
Mojave. I heard the double boom many times in Hollyweird.

But, I suppose the angle of the space station's orbit to the equator dictates
the direction it will be coming from, the northwest or the southeast.

They are high. I signed a note stating I'd buy a bike for a certain price.
The sales guy went to the manager but he said he couldn't do it for that
price. I left and went over to Thousand Oaks Yamaha/Kawasaki. Good'ol Rex
said, "Sure, mate", and I bought the bike. I'll continue to buy bikes from
Rex. He's a good and fair guy.

A little bit of something is better than a lot of nothing.
