..... for stupidity in the exploration of motorcycling.
I have to admonish myself before it comes out into the open.
I had mega probs working out where to fit the TomTom Rider v2 on the K100RS.
The bars are quite narrow and have rather tight cable routing, not to
mention the rubber cover housing the ignition and switches.
Drilling the fairing was toyed with amongst other ideas, but I finally
settled on one solution.
4 x Neodymium Iron Boron disc magnets with countersunk 6mm holes that would
mount very nicely on the back of the tomtom's plastic cradle.
Thus allowing a nice neat mount on the tank for the unit.
It took a visit from the wonderful mr packer last night to point out the
error in my plan........
1st pint in Belgium to the one who spots the obvious.

Heh. Ally tank.
A friend nearly made a similar mistake when he bought a universal
magnetic roof rack for his Land Rover Disco.
Luckily, he discovered that the roof was actually steel.

I gather from other posts that the tank is alloy, but won't magnets that
strong affect the unit's performance?

No, it does have a little vibration through the bars at around 120, but
apart from that it seems fine.

Alloy tank ..
In addition to the previously mentioned top box I also have a Baglux bag and
tank cover and a genuine BMW Tank Bag (Multi Vario ISTR) for the K series
somewhere here ... and the matching pannier liners too. They may be in the
attic, there's a guy coming to insulate the loft shortly. I'll have to root
them out while he's up there and fleabay them, for some reason they seem to
get daft money on Ebay

My F650 has a plastic tank but I got a RAM mount from ebay and a Garmin
adaptor so I can use my BMW Navigator on it as well as on the K-GT. There
are TT adapters available also

I'm holding out for a Krauser top to appear on fleabay or S/H at
motoworks/bins.
But would be seriously interested in the tank cover / bag combo.

I ended up buying an Oxford Sport tankbag with conventional rather
than magnet fittings for less than 15 year old genuine BMW K100
tankbags were going for on Ebay. They fetch over £50 nearly every time
I see one on there and (imo) the Oxford one is better. >> Stay informed about: Forgive me father..... |
