Just dropped about $125 on a new battery, the old one died without
warning after four years. So do you replace your battery on a schedule,
or wait for it to die? How long do they last you?

That's generally how batteries die. Without a warning. I've yet to receive
a notification mail or fax from a battery. Wink

If then battery in my bike was still original when it died then it too
lasted about four years.

Depends a little on climate too how much life you get out of a battery.
Place like Florida we'd usually get about 2 years out of our batteries in
all vehicles, 3 years if lucky.

Since my bike is secondary transportation, I'll wait for them to start dying
before replacement. The first sign I noticed that my 4.5 yr old battery was
dying was the slower than usual cranking of the starter motor after periods
of disuse.

3-4 years for a wet cell and I don't know about AGM because none of
mine have failed yet (5 years and counting for an Optima).

My luck is better, after 7 years my battery started to seem weak, so I
replaced it.

I definitely wait for it to die, since bump-starting the bike is easy
enough.
