Well, I just got off the phone with the dealership.
Engine is completely toast. Valves in the 3rd cylinder are completely
destroyed and there is metal pretty much everywhere in the engine.
I'll go by the dealership next week and take pictures.
Now I have the option of either
A. Buying a used replacement engine for about 1,500 EUR (2,100 USD)
B. Selling the bike back to the dealership for 3,000 EUR (4,200 USD)
It's probably option B I'll go with as I was planning to sell the bike
anyway before moving and it's still more money than I'd get for the bike
in the US.

Bummer. At least it is near the end if riding season.
I assume plan B indicates the dealer is taking some responsibility? >> Stay informed about: Dealership Results |

Sounds good. Getting an R1?

Here's a GUESS! Cam chain breaks and #3 cyllinder's valves hit #3
piston 1st. By that time the engine was locked up and the other three
cylinders didn't hit their respecive valves. New engine time at any
rate or option B sounds the best a get an 07 leftover GSXR1000, ZX10R
or CBR1000RR when you get to the states. They've been highly
dicounting the 07 models or something you won't find with a new R1,
because of their higher sought after squid value. <just kidding

Well I can refer to Saddle's comment in the other post:
"Of course, he probably didn't get to redline it quite as often as a guy
living next to the autobaun."
Which basically sums it up pretty well. The primary cause she said was my
habit of downshifting at high enough rpms causing my rear wheel to slide
because of the shift. She's seen multiple bikes before suffer valve
damage over time as a result.
Ultimately I'm just riding the piss out of the bike too much and
desperately need a R1. I keep looking for torque with the R6 that's
simply not there and well...that tends to break things I guess. =)

Nope, Cam chain is still in one piece.
GSXR1000 is actually a bike I would consider as well as the R1.
Kawasaki / Honda I honestly don't care that much for. Honda has just
never had any remote appeal to me at all in any way and Kawasaki needs to
desperately get rid of that beyond-ugly green of theirs!

If you can get over the colors, the Kawi Motors are the best, IMO.

Oh I have no doubts about that. The Kawi I had rented a couple years ago
here in Germany was awesome to ride. But ya know what? When I'm about to
spend several thousand dollars on something, I better like looking at it!

Yea the newer R6's (I think 2006 and up) have one of those as far as I
know.
But ultimately the problem isn't so much the clutch as it's that I need
something with more torque and horsepower. =)

You'd better break that habit before you get back here. You'll end up

HAH! Especially in Orlando I do! Too many cell-phone equipped SUV driving

Ehh honestly, it isn't that terribly different here in Germany. Sure,
Autobahns don't have a speed limit in most areas (they do in some
though), but generally there is too much traffic to really go fast for
any extended period of time. Usually in my cage, I'll be happy if I
manage to get an indicated 120km/h average speed going from home to the
city to go shopping. That's roughly your highway speeds.
Some areas aren't too bad on weekends and there you can whack open the
throttle and just go 150mph without seeing a car for quite a while but it
still isn't nearly as fun as some twisty backroads at half that speed.
And anything else outside of city limits has a 100km/h limit which comes
out to about 60mph. And on those you have to be semi-careful as they do
like to put up speed traps on occasion and being anything more than 26km/
h over the limit will get your license suspended really fast.
So really, most the roads I ride on have lower limits than your highways
so not much really changes.
