So that is your definitive answer on my Enfield Bullet question then?
It makes a lot of sense when you put it like that.

Let's see. You've got a 1500cc flat six making about 80bhp - a relatively
mild state of tune. New heads, new cams, new ignition, new exhaust
manifolds, and it's struggling to make 95bhp?

Wow. Impressed.

Not only that, but the torque doesn't start until 600rpm later than stock.
This will make it a lot less relaxed in traffic, won't it?

You're looking at spending a fifth of the price of a new 1800, for less
performance than the 1800.

Still hyped?

Me neither

I think that's just a feature of the dyno run - it looks like they
started the run on the kitted motor from 2k revs, as opposed to 1.5k
for the stocker - notice how the kit curves immediately leap to the
appropriate level. Bad marketing, all the same.

Maybe the kitted motor won't tickover below 2K?..

Dodger's bike is prolly worth £6K tops. It's not going to make £9K just
because it's been hot-rodded. The 1500 was mildly tuned, but made huge
low-end torque, which is exactly what you need in an enormously heavy
tourer. If this kit upped the torque by 10% across the board, I'd be
impressed. It would make a huge difference to driveability. Trick heads
don't really mean Jack Shit on an engine that produces its peak power at
5000rpm. None of the power would be accessible unless you thrashed it, and
you'd be thrashing it everywhere in order to feel the difference and
convince yourself you hadn't wasted your money. And you'd probably be
getting 20mpg.

I just don't think this is worth the money. At some point, Dodger is going
to take the head staggers and sign himself up for a GL1800, and that's what
the money should be earmarked for.

I wasn't being deadly serious - I was actually searching to see if any
deranged septic lunatics did super/turbo charger kits for it.[1]

If you think I'm gonna part with the old beast after all the time,
effort, money[2] and blood[3] I'll have expended when it's finished,
you've another think coming, Sonny Jim.

This 1500 has at least another 70,000 miles to do in my stewardship
before it can start thinking of a new owner.

[1] Again, not very seriously.
[2] I have a pile of receipts here, that I'm too scared to add up.
[3] Clumsy oaf that I am.

Oh shit, famous last words. I'd hold off from large expenditures on it for
a couple of months IIWY.

Anyway, if somebody came up and offered you a straight swap for a shiny new
1800...?
