I noticed that Talladega did track days a few years back, forget what
organization I was examining at the time. I always have an eye open for
sv650 sized tracks.

Statisticians aren't necessarily mathematicians. Matter of fact, the
statistician I know is also an economist.

Damn. Maybe I can trade my KLR in, I would love a small, vtwin sized
semi-dirt bike, as long as its got the right goodies for both offroading and
highway use. But the power has got to be better than the KLR, which wold
make it a much better highway bike.

The DL650 wouldn't fit that bill?

Maybe not, but the three themes I read most clearly in your post were:
1) "Everything has a darkside, including track and/or street riding."
2) "My answer isn't to give up street riding in favor of track riding"
3) You ride The Pace on the street, away from what you consider
squids.

My post agreed with those points, and then went on to say that in
remote areas away from others it really is all relative to the
situation, the rider, the conditions, and the bike.

The tone of all this "squidly" judging of others seems like a
categorical kind of classist prejudice. There's a lot of people (most
sportbike riders, actually) whom I won't ride with because I judge
their behavior to be unsafe. But I'm hesitant to judge others sight
unseen, and try to not develop strong prejudices about a class of
riders until I see if they are riding within the limit of their
skills.

And I avoid places like the Gap, too.

It isn't "dirty" enough. I realize some people use them that way, but I am
way more comfortable on the KLR when out "exploring". My old one wore
semi-knobbies year round, kept the suspension on the stiff side, and went
down dirt roads and trails any chance I got.

140 mph on a public highway doesn't require any "judgment" at all. Assuming
the story is true, I stand by my original comment on the exact jackass
nature of such a move.

While I'm not claiming he's the fastest guy in the world or anything,
he is really talented, #93.
http://www.msbracing.com/index.php?mode=viewcat&cat_id=9
The regional group is CCS Racing - they race at Blackhawk Farms and
Road America, in IL/WI.

And when asked why he's switching to street riding this year, he said,
"It's just more fun."

I am quite surprised, what is obvious to some, and yet so invisible to
others.

I'm curious as well. Most of the MRA guys I've talked to have nearly
abandoned the street. Of course, some of our MRA riders have pasted Miquel
himself in AMA Superbike, as well as finishing on the podium a chunk of the
season in FX. Maybe the riders V are talking about are REALLY accomplished,
versus the locals here.

So that answers that question. Local club racers who don't beat Miquel.
Well, there is quality, then there is quality. Did I mention Ricky has
finished Daytona 200 in the Top 10 before? Of course, he doesn't street ride
either.

Sure have. But the guy who wrote it, was it Ienatsch?, seems to have
codified it pretty well.

So....because we all ride bikes which go fast....we should only use it when
passing?

I would agree with you....but I don't consider the Pace, as I read it, to
encompass 140mph street riding because we happen to be comfortable with the
speed.

Troy, you and I both know that there are plenty of roads throughout the good old US of A that can
accommodate a quite rational blast up to 140 or More Smile

We're both kind of rational guys, right? ....
