The donor SL I bought came with a set of brand new, boxed, indicators,
so I've just bolted them on and started on the engine casings with
Loyblox and Solvol, as they haven't seen a polish in decades, I reckon.
Coo, this bike is coming up a treat, so I went for a 15-mile bimble this
afternoon, just burning petrol with no particular place to go. Well, I
had a jar of honey to deliver to a mate and bummed a cuppa while I was
there.
The SL whirrs along at 50-55, and will just about top 60 sitting up. Now
I've got the spare wheels, I'll get the rebuilt with the new rims, and
add the brand new forks I've also got waiting to go on.
And, as luck would have it, someone out there is trying to sell a
US-import SL with no papers barring the import receipts (so with luck
it'll go cheap) and I have, lurking in the Chateau, an SL frame for
which I can get a logbook....
It's the CB500T syndrome all over again, only with a bike rather more
fun and desirable. I like dirt bikes, I do.

I know, I know.
I'd love to use it to trundle around London, shopping hack, etc, but
it's a dirt bike and we both know what that means.....
As does BRC, of course.
But it's just *gorgeous*. Runs like a watch, all of 17k miles from new
(1974 model!), and a neat little rack on the back. I did swallow my fear
of the local pikeys and take it down to Morrisons for a quick shop, this
afternoon.

| Related Topics: | SL125 Update - This weekend, I wheeled the thing out from under its tarpaulin and started looking closer at what I've actually got. First impressions: the paint job really is very high quality. I like the black/ yellow colour scheme, so I'm keeping it. Less good is..
SL125 update - Just dropped the spare set of wheels off at Hagon's for new rims, spokes and beadblasting then polishing of the hubs. The French model rim I got from Dave Silver was a 17" item, and UK models had 18" rims. So it's useless to me. Well, I could ...
Very old Vintage Motorcycle Magazines - Im disposing of a large number of Motor Cycling Mags from the 50s - 70s over the next week or so on eBay. I also have complete sets of Classic Bike and The Classic Motorcycle - both from issue one! if anyone is interested contact me off list. I am..
Is it just me? - That's fed up with just having an sob when you want to go somewhere on 2 wheels, forever having stupid things happen like fuel pipes doing a Houdini act from the petrol tap, fuses working loose, brakes coming on on their own, etc... So I went to..
DIY tire changing sites? - Hi everyone, Gotten to the point where tire-changing seems a good thing to know and practice. I have a little more free time, am riding more and therefore using up rubber more often than ever. Therefore... I think I need to spoon my own tires in my own... |
