I went to two dealers this afternoon or 1 Euro dealer I've know for
years and the megastore across the street to price a new SV-650 @ ~
$6000 OTD for a standard new one. The Euro dealer also had a used 06/w
6K miles "SV-650" for only $400 less. Next, I looked at mainly
Ducati's and price on a 1000 Sport @ $10,900 OTD. We started this one
a it seemed very smooth or SV like and had a "quiet" dry clutch. Greg
said he could adjust the ride height for me and it only weighted about
385 dry. I also looked at the Paul Smart special, the Multi Strada
(very tall but adjustable on the Ohlins & triple clamp) and a new
Guzzi Breva that had a perfect seat height & godd balance but was
$12,600 OTD.
Now I gotta look at the used market. Any idea's on where to find a
good used common bike?

Craigslist.com?
There is a used GT1000 here in SLC for $7999 with 1600 miles. I'd deliver
it for you. >> Stay informed about: New Bike shopping Day 1 |

Used bikes bring up EVERYTHING. I think with $3000 in your hand you can
snare a Gen I sv650, easy. Another $1500 for shock, forks and brake upgrade,
luggage racks, done deal. >> Stay informed about: New Bike shopping Day 1 |

Troy, I haven't bought a successful used bike since the 70's RD-days.
I was talking to my sister on the phone today and she said , you got
you money & you're not getting any younger and it's the thing you
enjoy the most (outside activities), so just buy a new one already!
After this fiasco with the RZ-350 I'm inclined to agree with her. IOW,
don't buy someone else's troubles.

Yeah, I got that same speech except the wife used the term POS alot to refer
to the two Suzuki's. Having been forced to rescue me hasn't made her
gracious towards my well kept, older bikes.
So I got the KLR new instead of the used I would normally do. The KLR is a
known quantity though.

My sv has worked out pretty good for a used bike ( mine was cream puff when
I bought it with 3000 miles on it ), the DL ( a known bike from a friend )
and the Gixxer 750 ( creampuff used ) all worked out well. The 1100 not as
well, in terms of money spent, and still needing to spend more. >> Stay informed about: New Bike shopping Day 1 |

For some weird reason, inpsite of horror (sp?) stories, I'd still buy used.
Just not too old or used. hehe.
If had I the $, I'd buy the GT1000. Damn that bike speaks to me. If I just
wanted to ride, I'd test ride the EX 250.
Fuck. The GT1000 is way cool and is for me is the soul of riding. Style,
handling, brakes, power, nostalgia.
Bob, you have experienced more than most men dream or fear. You have
nothing to prove.

The Dealer didn't have a 695, Tim but he did mention than I would need
at least an 800 or 1000 to hang with a well tuned SV-650. And he's
been selling Duc's fo 2r0 years. BTW, he did not mean that statment to
include a 4 valve 749 which can wipe the floor up with an SV. The air
cooled two valve engines were all I was interested in.

Having raced agains SV650s on both EX500s and Ducati 750SS's (2v air-
cooled) and currently track riding a Sport 620, and having just ridden
an 800SS at the track two weeks ago, I have to respectfully disagree
with your dealer.
Motorcyclist has a test of the 695 Monster in their current issue, "10
bikes under $10k" article. They dynoed the 695 at 73 hp, 46 ft-lbs of
torque, and it weighed 412 or 416 pounds full of gas. Equal enough
to an SV650 that the rider will almost always certainly be the
difference. The old 620 had 14 less horsepower, enough that you had
to be a MUCH better rider on it to put an SV650 behind you. An
S2R800 or S2R1000 Monster, otoh, will both annihilate a stock SV650,
riders being equal.
BTW, the current Roadracing World & Motorcycle Technology issue has a
STREET test of the Triumph 675 Street Triple that makes it sound as if
it might very well be worth waiting for Triumph to get its act
together and the price to come down to msrp on them. They emphasised
the lower seat height compared to the 675 Daytona as well as the
humane riding position. Unusually positive review coming from those
guys. >> Stay informed about: New Bike shopping Day 1 |

Tim, on this last note on the SREET triple 675, I just bought the SV,
so I'll have to wait a year.
