Mucho thanks to Steve for extending me the hospitality of this Web
space.

http://extexltd.com/bigrex/

So far, I've uploaded:

http://extexltd.com/bigrex/MOV00080.MPG

Above is the entire 5 mile "top section" of 88 Apache Trail, featuring
"Crazy R1 Steve" out front at a Hammy but semi-sane pace of just over 5
minutes. I've a couple solo sub 5 minute runs, with Myself or Mike
AZ929RR but this one's the most Hollywood like.

~30Megs

http://extexltd.com/bigrex/MOV00080.MPG

This one is the bottom switchback section near the entrance road. Again,
moderate no brakes pace due to the traffic you see in the video.
~10Megs.

I plan on adding recent photos 800X600 from this Spring and Summer.

Please try to limit access to 'mostly' evening hours.

Fellow Arizonans and other interested parties, check for updates at:

Cool video, thanks. What road is that?

I'm moving out to Tucson in a month and am
going to buy a bike finally. I haven't ridden
in years and can't wait to get back to it.

Are there any riding classes out there? I
rode a lot but never anything like on that
video. I'd like to someday but safely and
with lots of experience. I'd like to start
with some classes though.

I appreciated your other post regarding hot
weather riding gear. I wondered how one could
protect oneself out there without boiling over!
I definitely will wear a helmet. Have to in
Michigan. I just can't imagine not wearing
one now.

Cool videos - may I ask what camera are you using - what interface are you
using to transfer to PC(or MAC?) and what software did you use to render the
MOV files?

Good. Then just take it slowly. There are MSF classes but not much good
for canyon scratching. The West coast has four advanced riding schools.
Las Vegas in Dec with the Prigmore School is my call.

MOV***.MPG actually. Or whatever you rename them. (see below)

John, the main "digital minicam" is a Sony, one of many. The video in
this sequence was done simply by playing back the tape, then copying the
selected sequence to the, "in camera", 128 Meg memory stick. Next, I
copy to PC, via card reader, then FTP to I-net via cable modem. The
frame rate is only about half the original and it's compressed a fair
amount but suitable for the I-net. Format is MPEG EX, Sony's own version
and is a compromise of size and reasonable quality. I've tried MPEG 4
but it looks too compressed. I'm still playing with different
compression and now, with more storage space I may find a middle ground
between size & quality.

The cigarette camera I bought was about $300 via I-net. It plugs into
the minicam and is Velco'd on the bikes front brake fluid reservoir. It
has a separate mike. Basically the main minicam sits in the tank bag,
under my seat or in this case, in the tail section of Mike's 929, with
video wire running under the seat. I also have a fire-wire card and
cable that yields excellent quality but at the cost of huge files,
mostly suitable only for burning on a CD or DVD; 400Meg to 2Gigabyte
range. My main software is Pinnacle Studio 8+ and you can do all sorts
of cool edits and add photos, titles & a music track. The Camera also
came with software called PIXELA Image maker and uses USB 1.0 but looks
no better than the memory card output and pales in comparison to the
Pinnicle/Firewire option. TV (ATI All in Wonder) or Capture cards are
another route, mainly for older analog cams; high-8 or my old S-VHS full
size corder, now safely in my sister's hands.

BTW, my still video camera (3.3 M-pixels) can do 30 seconds of Mac "MOV"
based videos but the files are huge (10Megs for 30 secs).

Solid suggestions.

Curious, however, where the "four advanced riding schools" comment
comes from. I can think of:

1. Keith Code's California Superbike School
2. Reg Pridmore's CLASS
3. dP Safety School.
4. Spencer School (Las Vegas)
5. Team Hammer Advanced Riding School (no West Coast dates this
year?)

Most tracks in CA, OR, and WA have all sorts of track days, but those
aren't schools I suppose. They usually aren't for new riders, or at
least those who value their plastic. Event sponsors include local
dealers, Adrenaline Freaks, etc.

I haven't the vaguest idea what's offered in AZ and NV.

WMRRA, AFM, WSMC, and OMRRA have new racer "schools" of sorts at
tracks like Willow Springs, Sears Point, Pacific Raceways, and
Portland International Raceway. Complete that, get a license.

An outfit called Pacific Track Time claims (on the website) to offer
sort of an intermediate adventure: neither highly-structured nor
open-track. They have events at Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, and Willow
Springs (all CA). Sounds interesting.

Is this a suggestion for what bike to get? As I said
elsewhere, my main goal is a nice looking bike that
is comfortable. Once I have a few years of experience,
then maybe I'll get a bike for power and handling.
I was thinking Katana 600. Would this not be a good
choice or maybe the SV650 would be a better choice?

I'm short (5'6") and fat if that helps! Smile

Thanks!!

Joe, both have low seat height and are competent, reliable bikes. I've
ridden both, owned an SV and a friend has a Katana 600. The naked SV's
just more fun and maybe a bit more comfy.

The Vegas track, or maybe Parumph outside of town has the Prigmore
school in the winter. I'm planing on it this winter.

We also have three tracks in PHX for track days.
