A couple of years ago the Angels were building a new clubhouse in
Bowness (subdivision in Calgary, my neighbourhood) and did not have
their building permit in order. Apparently they built a bit too high
and a little too close to the property line. Once the clubhouse was
almost complete the City issued a stop work order and forced them to
demolish the nearly constructed building.

Flash forward to this week. The Angels had sold the Bowness property
and bought a new place in the subdivision of Ogden, very close to a
future road right of way. Now the City wants to widen that road and
needs to buy the Angels property and clubhouse.

Bikers are a stubborn bunch with long memories and it looks like the
City is going to pay a hundred to a hundred and fifty grand over
market value for the property.

Do you think those bikers enjoyed a cold brew or two at the City's
expense when that deal was hammered out?

I dunno. The concept of community owned property always seemed
antithetical to a good time for me.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Since Canadians do not have property rights protected in our Charter,
maybe community property is all we should have.

You guys have a charter? Didn't you guys write a constitution after your
independence? A charter is granted after all. If you have a charter, how
are you an independent nation?

I believe it was in 1982 the Canadian Government enabled the
Constitution Act and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

<a style='text-decoration: underline;' href="http://www.eff.org/Legislation/Foreign_and_local/Canada/charter_rights_freedoms.ca" target="_blank">http://www.eff.org/Legislation/Foreign_and_local/Canada/charter_rights...eedoms.</a>

We followed a different path than the United States.
