Shure, I blew by the area (alright, 150 miles east) a couple weeks
back. Nothing up there but bears and halfwits. Seemed like a great
place to ride, if you can get there. Observations:
1) More cars seemed to clear the road while passing (move to right
side of lane or wave us by) than WA State
2) Even hauling ass (90-110mph), we'd be passed by cars in some of
the more-remote areas. Not all the time, but more often than I'd
expected. I thought that rather cool, actually.
3) A lot of natives wanted to chat with biker-types: we found nothing
but pleasant, curious folks usually tut-tutting that bikers would be
out on hundred or thousand mile rides. But they seem cool with the
"live and let live" concept.
Just a random sampling of the area, I figure. Seems to me rural folks
everywhere are a little more down-home than us city-types.
The border can be a real hassle these days, depending on nothing in
particular. Word is to keep clear of Blaine, if possible, using Sumas
instead, but that isn't entirely practical if going to Vancouver
Island.
Someone mentioned either here or on the Company list Blaine crossing
is a major source of trans-continental pot shipments these days, so
I'm mildly sympathetic to the border patrol's problem. The flip
side: border patrol sometimes enjoys hassling bikers for no particular
reason, apparently.
Guess I don't get much jollies from any street ride these days, given
the variables (leaping deer, cagers, the usual crap). Sport riding on
the street just doesn't satisfy anymore. With $100 trackdays in the
summer, I don't see the point.
Personally, I think you live near some of the nicest roads I've ever
ridden ( Hwys 128, 121, etc.) so I'd stay relatively close to home.
Just my $.02, having ridden a lot of roads on the West Coast.
