Going to throw my problem on group because I have seen a lot of good assistance
provided here.

I havent ridden my bike in about 2 months. It has been outside, under a cover.
Tried to start it and it wont fire. After repeated attempts, most it would do
would be a 'brief' cylinder fire.

Thought with all the cold/warm days recently in Florida, gas may be bad.
Drained a bit, then added 1 gallon of fresh gas and some SeaFoam detergent.
Still does not start.

It has a recent tune up and oil change and was running fine when I was riding
it every other day.

Any suggestions on what to do?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Jay

My CB900C was very difficult to start after winter storage because the fuel
in the carbs would evaporate. Refilling the carbs is difficult to do simply
by cranking the engine over, because the amount of vacuum produced is not
quite enough to open the vacuum operated fuel shutoff valve fully. Unfortunately
this bike doesn't have a PRIME position on the fuel tap (even if it did, it
wouldn't help, because the vacuum fuel shutoff is separate from and downstream
from the tap itself). What I used to do was attach a Mityvac vacuum pump to
the vacuum line going to the fuel shutoff valve, or you can even apply vacuum
by mouth, depending on how much you suck Smile

Even if you have sufficient fuel in the carb bowls, you may have plugged up
the idle circuits with fuel residue after the fuel evaporated. In that case,
it may take a good long time (or never) for the SeaFoam to work. The only
sure cure is to R&R the carbs.

The simplest thing to do after a motorcycle hasn't been started for a few
months is to find the master idle knob on the carbs and turn it all the way
counter-clockwise. It may be on top of the carbs or underneath.

Turning this knob closes ALL 4 throttle butterflies all the way and that
increases the vacuum across the idle mixture ports so the low engine vacuum
during cranking can suck up the fuel.

After starting and warming up the engine, you and re-adjust the master idle
knob to the correct idle speed and then the engine will be back to normal...

G'luck...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
