Greetings!
I've got a '77 R100RS that I don't ride much any more and have debated
selling, however trying to gain an idea of the value is difficult,
given the age, small number around, and varying miles/condition. I'm
hoping to provide enough info here for folks to give me some idea of a
reasonable price expectation. I don't want to give it away, but I
also don't want to price it unreasonably.
I purchased it about 20 years ago with 30K miles. Put about 8K on it
over the next few years, then it sat for several years (due to young
kids, carpool, didn't fit in well with my life!

. While I do some
work myself, I wanted it done right and checked over, so into the shop
one winter (2000) and brought up to running condition, had everything
fixed/repaired/replaced that was suggested (have receipt). Cost was
comparable to what I originally paid for the bike.
Since that time it's gotten less than 2K miles, I take a short ride
every month or so, but figure this bike really needs to get out more,
for it's own good.
The good:
40K miles
New battery
2K miles since overhaul
Tires/fluids 2 years ago, has a few hundred miles since
Runs great, no issues
The bad:
Not original paint
No tools or owners manual
Has chipped fin on one cylinder
KBB says $2,200 private to $3,300 retail. Then some folks say they've
got low miles, rare bike, all original, etc. and ask several $K. I'm
trying to be realistic and figured the price someone would pay for
this bike might be somewhere in between those extremes, but I don't
really know. So, if you would care to suggest a value range, ask
specific questions to help evaluate, or provide some direction on
where to go to check it out, I'd appreciate it. FYI - I'm in
Cincinnati, our local BMW Motorcycle shop closed down last year.
There is a small local riding group I found on the web, haven't
contacted them.
Thanks for any feedback.
Bernie
PS - I've also posted on a BMW forum, I'm aware of a couple of places
that might be more appropriate/directly BMW, but thought I would see a
wider audience here that might offer some perspective.
