What the hell are you talking about? A new CR125 is $5500.
I did the Buell Track day for $150. I'd say track days cost about $250
in most places. And a new rider will probably get several track days
out of a set of tires. >> Stay informed about: 500 miles today |

That is about it for me for the street although growing up I rode MX
bikes for years. I did do a few street miles with the dirt bike though
as the cops were chasing me on the way to the trails. The dirt
biking experience helped a great deal though. From about 1974 to 87 I
had an MX bike. Motocross was huge in my neck of the woods growing up.
If I enjoyed riding more on the street I could have racked up a few
thousand more miles. When you are accustomed to 196 lb bikes that
feel like a Bicycle with very good suspension and lots of power a
street bike feels cumbersome in comparison. Even a brand new Gixxer
600 feels heavy and bulky to me. Take into account the moronic cagers
and other obstacles on the road and it makes the experience even less
enjoyable for me. I am sure i would enjoy a track day as much as the
next guy but as i stated for the cost of a track day there could be a
CR 125 or 250 in my possesion and when it comes to fun on a motorcycle
IMO nothing comapares to getting some serious air on a dirt bike or
powering out of a berm with the front tire coming up off the ground in
the first three or four gears. I bet if you got a good dirt bike and
found some great trails to ride on you would sell your overweight
R1. Now my Dad has made up for the lack of street miles I have been
putting on. He started riding in 1953 and is still riding today. >> Stay informed about: 500 miles today |

Ask him why he wasn't listening nearly a decade ago when I said he should

Your dad sounds like the kind of guy I want to be in another 40+ years.
I doubt I'd give up the R1 for a dirt bike. Maybe if you tried my R1, you'd
want to give up your overweight, underpowered Buell!
I probably would like a dirt bike though. It's something I have in the back
of my mind for "later", whenever that is.
I added up some past and current bike mileage a little while ago, and came
up with a total somewhere around 150k miles. Just turned 36k miles on this
R1 earlier this summer (2002 model). I used to put over 10k miles on per
year but for the past few years it's been closer to half that. They've been
good miles, though. Interstate road trips, weekend rides, etc. Minimal
commuting.

Well, you do vote Republican. I guess being that you're afraid of
Muslims, Mexicans, Blacks, Jews, Gays, and the US Constitution and
find the need to pack 24/7 just in case some crazy cracker in the
neighborhood acts up and scares ya too, it doesn't come as much of a
shock that you're afraid to ride in traffic too. >> Stay informed about: 500 miles today |

I am glad he didn't listen to you. Hes running the superior Rotax
motor instead. That all said have you placed an order on the new Buell
yet? Seems to me it delivers in all the things you have spoke about
in here in a motorcycle. More than enough power, great brakes and
suspension and the typical great Buell handling. The price is not so
bad either. Lets us know when you pick it up. >> Stay informed about: 500 miles today |

I'm quite happy with my sportbike right now....don't really need another
until I go back to lots of trackdays on a big track. Maybe next year,
assuming Buell passes the test of being at least as good as its competition
and not needing to compete in another universe to make things even enough
that it only loses by the odd half lap or so.

We don't know how much power it makes yet, other than "more than the old
lump", we don't know how much it weighs yet, other than "more than a
obsolete Suzuki 750 making 120+ RWHP", we know people like the brakes but I
haven't noticed anyone using their new fangled technology to outbrake Aaron
Yates yet, and I guess we don't even know anything about the handling other
than at least Erik considers this one a sportbike and not some other BS
category in an effort to NOT get compared to comparable hardware.
Having said that, this is at least apparently a sportbike. One of the first
Eriks' ever made I guess. Good deal. Now lets get on with the real world
testing, real world racing, and see what happens. >> Stay informed about: 500 miles today |

How original? Since when did you start caring about originality? The

races as moto Guzzi.

Yea right. The bike cost more than 4K so it is out of your price
range.

Maybe you don't know about the handling but Buell has been running
this chassis for quite sometime on the race track. Not too mention
this chassis has been in use since 2003 on the street bikes as well.

motorcycle company so yes this could be a sport bike.

That point isn't in question Mike.

Excellent. And he finally made a move to fix the biggest issue with his
bikes. An issue, which I remind you, some of us were advocating YEARS ago.
WE already knew what the problem was...it took Erik longer to figure it out
apparently.

Maybe someday Moto Guzzi will have some modern hardware and duke it out with
Buell in the club racing scene while avoiding matching up against the big
boys? You know....out of fear that what happened to Hardley will happen to
them?

What are you talking about? I spent more than that just TODAY. Geez Mike,
keep up with the times, maybe get out and ride or something.

Could be. As soon as Steve runs into a dyno comparison of one sort or
another we'll know. I'm hoping for the best myself. Say...at least as much
as the near decade old TL1000R? Which is smaller, and old....

Well, if Buells chassis and a 100% displacement advantage were worth squat,
I wouldn't have to point out how well REAL vtwins like the little Duck do in
Formula Extreme and how Buell basically disappeared from the class after
getting embarassed last year. Maybe because they couldn't get the little
600's to tow trailers behind them to even up the field even more?
I do have better hopes for this new model. But we'll see.

I can get at least 75% of the basic info I need for a purchase off a spec
sheet, and the rags voting for Top Ten motorcycles in the country, various
columnists, websites, etc etc. My guess is, I might like it. But that doesn't
do me much good when I already have a good sportbike around. Until a big
track opens nearby, or I take up trackdays in quantity again. >> Stay informed about: 500 miles today |
