Archived from groups: alt>motorcycle>sportbike (more info?)

Backroads to Crested Butte, dirt roads through Kebler(?) Pass, interstate
back from Glenwood Springs. Hit a gully washer in Loveland Pass and guess
what? Lost a cylinder on the 1100.

It'll run above 3K, but now the bike won't idle. It had been idling pretty
bad above 10,000' in elevation all day, getting progressively worse, and
when I was in the storm I was near 12K in elevation. Thought it was just the
altitude at first, then hit a traffic jam and when I slowed down, nearly
stalled the bike. Then it wouldn't start and run on all 4, only 3. Had a
tough time getting it home, avoided stoplights and everything else which
required a start from a dead stop.

I don't know if I fouled a plug with all the high altitude riding and the
bikes rich running down here at 6,000 feet, or something got wet and shorted
again.

I may have to buy that bike on Tuesday morning.

I only did 200 miles but as usual they were trouble free. Glad you
made it home. This old Buell reminds of my old 72 Impala I had back in
the mid 80s. It just runs and runs. Never a problem.

Whaddya got on it now, 11k miles? I'll bet my FJR has more on it and
I've only owned it for a little over a year. And I've been splitting
my time between two bikes a good part of that time. I wouldn't get
too cocky just yet, that replacement engine mount of yours is prolly
about ready to fatigue at anytime.

"As usual"? You mean it worked okay on the only decent sized ride you did
this year?

Me too. And the wife. She said she wouldn't mind rescueing me between home
and Eisenhower tunnel though, which is where it all started.

You know Mike wont tell us what his bike has on it for miles. He'd be
ridiculed for it, and he knows it.

I am closing in on 15k. Let the ridculing begin. Those are quality
miles though. Basically no commuting mileage. Street riding is just
not that fun too me. I grew up riding MX bikes and nothing I do on the
street comes close to soaring through the air on a 196 lb MX bike.

Really? Finally collecting some tracktime are you? Good for you...its about
time.

So you've REALLY been track riding? Excellent!! Which tracks? Which tires?
Which organization? How fast? How'd you ever talk the wife into it?

Surely you don't soar through the air on your Buell? If so, perhaps its not
unreasonable for you to be breaking motor mounts?

Quality over quantity is the best way to go! Smile

Especially if your bike is a toy , rather than your only form of transport.

True but the dirt bike goes way higher.

Nope. I have little desire to go to the track due to excessive
expense. One track day with tires costs as much as a nice MX bike.

I try and at the time of the broken mount I was getting some air over
some railroad tracks at 70 mph. Problem with the Buell is 70% of its
weight placement is up front.

So....the wife has let you collect a few MX bikes recently?

Are you sure about that? Thats a pretty heavy bias, even with that antique
lump of a motor.

Wait a sec... do you mean 15k total street miles for you as a rider? Or 15k
miles on your current bike? Or both?
