I would have to say this weekend has been the most fun I have had in a very
long time! I meet up with the SCBMW riders group in San Diego, and road all
over Julian, Escondido, and Palomar. Total mileage for the weekend is over
430 miles. I have now realized that my bike is a good bike, but far from
idea for ventures beyond two hours.
I have also seen the appeal of Mt Palomar to the squids out there. THEY ARE
FREAKING NUTS! There is no way I would ever be dragging my knee through a
turn over the double yellow into a blind turn! no thanks! this weekend has
been a real eye opener for me.
just thought I would share with everyone.
How many miles did everyone else do? how many miles does everyone put on
their bike in a year???

230 miles of bliss for me.
The VFR was a delight. I love the sound of it's V-4. Some squids blew by
me on a double solid into a down hill, blind corner- crazy dudes! Then later
I saw them getting tickets by the police on the roadside. I guess they can
afford the fines and insurance.

I rode up to a pack of Harleys and it was deafening so I went an alternate
route.
I performed an oil change on saturday and the Honda mechanic who did the
last O.C. had the oil filter torqued on so tight I could barely move it with
a wrench and two hands.

Yup, it was a perfect weekend until my Armour-All incident on late sunday
afternoon.
I won't do that again!

best regards,

I put about 270 miles on this weekend. With the wife out of town I decided
it was time for a weekend of nothing but riding, and where else to go but
the VA mountains.

From Richmond, I worked my way over to 33, which can take you all the way to
Harrisonburg and beyond if you so desire. Todays (Saturdays) trip would not
require that. 33 is a pretty nice road, long sweeping turns, 2 lanes, with
the occasional stop in a single red light "town" to get the legs stretched
and the hands off the clip ons. After cruising along at a pretty good clip
for 45 minutes I was in the Appalachian foothills, and the road got a bit
twistier and hillier, and the scenery was beautiful. The air is so clean up
there. There are a hundred different smells and I'd swear you could discern
each one - some better than others - something you just can't do in a cage.

After an hour and 20 minutes I reached stop one on the trip, the
Barboursville Winery. Although pricey, they are my favorite VA wines. They
vineyard is absolutely beautiful, and riding through the fields of grapes on
the windy road leading up to the winery without a cloud in the sky was
sublime. (Yes, I have pics but I haven't pulled them off the camera yet.)

After tasting some wines (not too many, mind you) and buying a bottle of my
favorite, it was off to stop two, Charlottesville. I figured I'd gas up and
grab a latte downtown before heading home to beat nightfall. Rt 20 between
Barboursville and Charlottesville is about 30 miles of nothing but one 25
mph squiggly line after another. It was an awesome road, and really gave me
some time to work on my back-and-forth lines. Unfortunately, about halfway
in, some knuckleheads in a VA power truck decided they were going to stick
to my back bumper and "push" me along. I know I was pushing it in the
corners now, but somehow they were right there. In hindsight I should have
found a place to turn off, because if I had to cram on the brakes, I would
have had a 6000 lb anal implant at about 70 mph. Finally they turned off,
but then I was in C-Ville and the road ended at rt 250.

I headed toward downtown Charlottesville for a peaceful cup of coffee, but
it was not to be. UVa's spring football game or something must've been going
on because there were loud, raucous, and presumably drunk students
everywhere, so I nixxed the coffee idea. Heading back out rt 250 I stopped
for gas and a leg stretch, and then shot down 250 for the ride home. And it
was a straight shot. I think there were two slight bends in the road the
entire 60 mile stretch. And not a stop to speak of. When I finally hit the
first stoplight, at Short Pump in Richmond, I didn't think my leg was going
to extend and I thought for sure I was going over. I guess that was about my
limit for riding for the day.

That was Saturday's 160 mile loop. I did another 100 on Sunday with my buddy
on his 600RR through back roads to Lake Anna under ominous skies, which was
also a great deal of fun. Enough so that it will warrant a return trip in
the next weekend or two. I'll save that report until then.

I have two uncles that ride Harleys. I took one for a spin once, no thanks.
I would not be able to ride a vibrator for any distance. my butt would be
numb, and I would be deaf.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
