Hello,

My buddy and I are in the process of rebuilding a 1989 Yamaha Virago (It's
our first project bike). We've built a new frame and are using the same
swing arm that came with the bike.

We do not like the wheel that was part of the bike and would like to replace
it. The axle is a 20mm axle. Is there any information on which bikes have
20mm axles? We found out that the 1999 kawasaki zx-9r has a 20mm rear axle
and like the wheel...are there any other bikes that have a 20mm rear axle?
Is there a place that contains this info?

Thanks

Your biggest problem will be finding another rear wheel with a compatible
shaft drive, the wheels you are looking at are all chain drive. Check the
other virago models or some of the early 80s Yamaha inline threes and fours
for wheels and then check to see if you can swap em. Maybe you can even
swap for other japanese shaft drive bikes, but I seriously doubt that you
can do an easy swap for chain drive rear wheels. You are probably stuck
with using the stock wheels.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Thank you for the reply. We are working on a chain driven 920. Does that
make a difference?

Many thanks,

You might check out a motorcycle salvage yard, calipers in hand. They typically
will have boxes of "lost parts" like axles that you can llok through.
