Archived from groups: alt>motorcycle>sportbike (more info?)

I've had my GSX-R600 for three months and love it. Since I have had
it, the exhaust smelled like wet cement. When it was cold, hot or
warming up, whenever. In three months I put 20 miles on it (long
story) Now, all of a sudden, the exhaust smells like when you ride
behind a newer muscle car that had the catalytic converters pulled
out, kinda rich and "wet" smelling, but like cold and "wet" as in
incorrect mixture, like an old lawnmower. I am second owner on this
bike and have known the bike and original owner since new in '99.
This bike is bone stock, aside from a Yosh slip on, mileage is under
9,000. Why would the exhaust smell change? I hate the rich smell, it
makes me mad. It does seem a little snappier, off-idle, the dead spot
that WAS around 3k is gone, not like 3k is soo important. Please
don't mail me and say "Well, I don't know anything about GSX-R's but,
you probably wiped out your pistons" or, "I'm guessing here, but, maybe
your jetting's way off". If you don't know, don't respond. I'm
stumped. Mark

well, IMO there are only a few reasons why yer ex "smells" funny,...
1) somthing is is corroding inside,.. along with some moisture or oil, gas
etc,..
2) this the most common,.. the mixture is off enough to emit wierd smells,..
3) some types of gas have some nasty smelly additivs, that stink,..
thats pretty much it,..

New R1/FZ1 4 valve engine tech questions? + other?'s - I thought Yamaha going back to the simpler 4-valve scheme was a winner for several reasons. fuel problem with 1999 GS500E - I have a 1999 Suzuki GS500E. OCCASSIONALLY it seems to bog-down while riding. While staying steady on the throttle it will slow down as if it’s not getting gas or running out of gas. Throttling while this is happening will make the bike either slow down....

GSX-R600 seat question - Hi guys, I've just bought a 1996 GSX-R600, unfortunately without the manuals. As far as I'm aware, there's meant to be a locking mechanism with a keyhole to undo the rear seat. Instead, there's just two screw holes which I've undone to no success. If..
