Hi All
Never posted here before, but could use a tip or two. My daughter's
boyfriend bought a 1990 FZR600. It was running fine until he lost the
ignition key. He pulled the switch/key assy to replace it but didn't
disconnect the battery. Upon reinstallation he noticed a small spark. After
reassembly the bike would barely start and wouldn't rev any higher than 1000
RPM with throttle held full open. If throttle was released at all bike would
die. I work on quite a few Harleys in the garage and my daughter had heim
bring it over here, (lucky aren't I). The plugs looked very bad and it
didn't appear to be firing on all cyl.(inductive timing light would not
light on at least 2 cyl.) I told him I thought it was plugs and he bought a
set. When they were installed it still would not rev beyond 1000 RPM. He
doesn't have a manual, I will have a manual for it in a few days but in the
meantime does anyone have any ideas?? This kid is about 20 and too broke to
pay attention so troubleshooting by part replacement is not a viable option.
I already feel bad that I told him to replace the plugs and that didn't
help.

Thanks in advance for any help. If further information is needed please let
me know.

Hi
Yes there is spark off each plug wire if you pull the plug and ground it
there is spark at each plug wire.

I don't see how the problem could be carb mixture THAT far off if it was
never touched and was running fine before ignition switch replacement.

I really do appreciate the input.

Thanks
